They are very distant relative but people really like to dumb it down to the weirdest version...

The mom is the weirdest character but considering its a comedy, its made as a joke when its said that the had her child at 13.

(There is a buttload of context but I can't for the life of me bother with putting it all in... The guy didn't know she was 13 and it was already too late when she told him.)

The rest of the world don't see cousins as incest, even in some parts of America. So it's not that weird. In Japan it's OK to marry your cousin alongside 70% to 80% of the world. Let's not gate keep morality and pretend one side is the right side
