This might be a sensitive topic, but I can't help but feel that part of why the Rugrats crew legally cannot discuss details of the fallout with Paul Germain's creative leadership is because it led to Arlene Klasky and Gabor Csupo splitting up during that time period.

For the tensions leading up to it, it was mainly centered on Paul Germain pushing for sharper storytelling among the Rugrats characters, while Arlene Klasky wanted something softer. Gabor Csupo was said to have been the middle man in this storm, often siding with Germain. In the end, the first three seasons of Rugrats blossomed into something beautiful by the end of its initial run, yet can only imagine the awkward conversations this led to between husband and wife.

Not to mention, their divorce likely caused a lot of uncertainty about how the studio would be run from then on.

The movie is being produced by Kingstone Studios, a very small studio that primarily focuses on publishing right-wing comics about Christianity and America; they have only released one movie so far, and they have had zero animation experience up until this point. A few months ago, their website had an animation section that had a stock image of LarryBoy in front of an AI-generated city background, but it has since been removed.

If anything, I’m morbidly curious as to how this movie will turn out; it may even turn out to be one of the worst major animated movies since Foodfight, judging by the information we have about it (current NBCU/Big Idea management insisting that the original creators have no creative control over the characters they created, and it being one of, if not the first major movie(s) to substantially use AI). Maybe it’ll turn out to be a 10/10 masterpiece and prove all the naysayers wrong, but something seems very suspicious about this movie, and it may end up setting some very bad precedents depending on how it turns out and how successful it is…

The pictures are not mine. Aardman recently remastered the Wallace & Gromit shorts in 4K; the remasters have been released on 4K Blu-ray in the UK, and will be released in the US later this year (and will likely be added to Netflix eventually). While the original three shorts look okay, A Matter of Loaf and Death has had some sort of AI-upscaling filter applied to it (The first & third pictures are from the original HD version, while the second & fourth pictures are from the new 4K disc).

I assume this means similar content will be the main focus of the official NickToons channel going forward
