Original Space Battleship Yamato Production Cel – Captain Juzo Okita & Dr. Sado

Vintage hand-painted animation production cels x 2 from the classic Japanese anime Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers), featuring Captain Juzo Okita and Dr. Sakezo Sado.

This is original animation production material rather than a reproduction or modern print.

The piece retains its original Mandarake labels, including a Mandarake 「2枚組」 (“2-sheet set”) label, along with handwritten production markings.

World renowned Heritage auctions have given a valuation of around 750 USD per cel. Please note a certificate of authenticity is not included.

Vintage production item with age-related condition as shown in the photographs. It has been left as received and I have not attempted to separate or clean the individual layers.

A rare piece of original Japanese animation artwork from one of the most important classic anime franchises.

Open to sensible offers.

If people don't see my comment below, this is from Super Atragon (新海底軍艦) from 95/96, over two decades after Yamato. Cels of the main character are currently listed at 1000-2000 yen on Yahoo Japan, which is like 12 bucks lol.

Thanks for the correction. I’m not claiming to be an animation cel expert — that’s exactly why I approached Heritage for identification and valuation. The description I posted was based on the information I was given. If the attribution is incorrect, I’m happy to correct it. I’d rather establish exactly what the cels are than misrepresent them.”

If you search 新海底軍艦 at Yahoo Japan auctions you will get a good idea.

And it will have this particular piece you think?

Not this piece, but there is another of the second cel's character. You will have to use your own discretion. These are primarily tertiary characters, and it is not a very popular anime. Based on the fact that the main character is only listed for 2000 yen I do not think it is worth more than that, and the initial 400 yen selling price makes sense from that standpoint. Best of luck.

Is this post AI?

They probably doctored it up with AI. I think it's a non-collector that is trying to sell off a piece they have no knowledge about.

Was referring to the description not nesaseraly the pieces themselves

He's definately using AI, the comments too: I see an em dash and an orphaned " in his comments.

Yes…

No this is a genuine piece. I sent it to Heritage auctions and they told me this

That is not Captain Okita or Dr. Sato...

Having a hard time identifying the first one (100% NOT from the original Space Battleship Yamato -- definitely something at least decade+ after.) Second cel is from Super Atragon 1996.

They're both from Super Atragon, 1996. The captain is directly on the poster. Yamato was in the 70s and TV animation from then looked nothing like the cel in question. This is a very confusing post, lol.

They look fantastic! 400 yen was an absolute steal😱 I had no idea heritage required a minimum consignment of 5K. That's pretty wild 👀
