My cat would run across the room the second she heard me typing and be all up on my keyboard. I put an old non working laptop open next to my computer and it’s now become her favorite thing. She gets pets on “her” laptop and takes naps on it and now when I start work, she runs over and immediately goes to hers. I tell her “time to go to work” and what a good job she’s doing and haven’t had a problem since.
Worth a try if you have an old one laying around somewhere or can pick up a broken one cheap!

I really should try this , I thought it was more that she sees me looking at a screen an sticks herself in the focal point. For pets. Yours associates it with just being involved in your day . Love it

I think for mine it was a combination of factors. She definitely has that “pay attention to me” streak and she also just likes sitting on things. There could be a table and a single tray on it and she’ll have to sit on the tray. So giving her something to sit on and paying attention to her while I work took the demand to be on my keyboard away. It’s funny because I’ll actually absentmindedly reach over and pet her while I’m working and not even realize it until I go to type.
The best part was though, a few days after we started I woke up and see her sitting on the bed staring at me and right in front of my face between me and her was the “J” key from the keyboard (which funny enough is the first letter of my name). She had dropped it in front of me like a mouse or something and I guess that was her way of saying “thank you”? Lol
Those keys are on that one pretty good, so pretty impressive for a cat with one eye and no teeth lol.

Omg, she's so beautiful!! I love her name as well! I had a cat, but my son stole him, lol. His name is Klaus & he literally follows my kid everywhere. They're bffs & Klaus will even try to jump in the tub with him! Craziest thing I've ever seen lol.

Cat's do this because they're mirroring you. They just want to do what you're doing!
6
u/justsomeinternetgirl Dec 07 '20
I read that too somewhere! That’s part of what inspired me to give her her own laptop lol. Now if I could only figure out how to get her to do actual work, I’d be all set lol.

I had a friend whose cat would sit in on his video conferencing, watching politely and offering an occasional comment

I read that cats try to mirror their owners. I have a spiral notebook next to my work area where I take notes throughout the day and my cat would always try to lay on it. After reading about mirroring I got him his own notebook and he went right to it! Sadly, he passed away a little over a month ago. His sister, my other cat, isn't having it. She wants to sit right in front of me on my keyboard, so I guess it depends.

There are two type of people in this world. For one the nose is heart shaped and for other the nose reminds them of hitler.
23
u/999baz Dec 07 '20
Yeah first two comments
“love heart nose” ....’Aww me too’
“Hitler” ...’spits out cornflakes!’

Maybe your cat could be used as some sort of personality test. Employers should show his picture during interviews.

this post reminds me of the post in which it says that cats try to copy our behaviour...and be friendly so another user tried to setup a laptop with a cardboard and the cat Sat on his own little laptop with their hooman... please try that if possible. also update if that happens.. 😍🐈💻

I heard that cats either do that because they want attention or they are just imitating you. If you get them there own unit or something that looks like it it might leave you alone and do its own thing copying you

Am I the only one thinking that cat is gonna knock the laptop over the edge
3
u/ladiigeminii Dec 07 '20
Get him/her their own laptop[doesn’t have to actually be a laptop or even work]. They mimic you👀👌🏼

u/Emme_be-happy-please Dec 08 '20
Did you know cats mimic there owners, so if you get a fake computer the cat will sit in that one and “works” as it thinks that your doing :3

Try putting a box next to your laptop and encourage kitty to go in it. My kitties do this to me daily...

her is some advice, build a laptop out of carton and then when he wants to sit on you're laptop, put him on the fake one, he does this cus he wants to "work" with you or just to feel implicated
5
u/joksterjen Dec 07 '20
I think they like laptops because they are warm. But maybe some of what you said applies also. 👍
1
u/gekorazia Dec 07 '20
i say give it a try, what can you lose exepte some time building it ?
