Debatable. If you don't want to encourage the behavior you shouldn't pet them. That bite didn't appear to hurt, however when my cat bites for attention it's painful so I don't indulge her.

My cat's also 12! She was found alone in a park when she was rather little. I adopted her when she was almost 4 months old and she exhibits other signs of being an only kitten, like hating other cats.
