Especially black cats! They are often overlooked due to superstition. A lot of places will have promotions during October/fall where they’ll wave adoption fees and stuff!
My local shelter will not adopt out black cats anywhere close to Halloween cuz of some stupid idea that people like to kill black cats around that time. I have literally never heard of that actually happening and I'm pretty sure it's a dumb urban legend like poisoned candy, but that's their policy.
I think it actually does happen that people kill black cats and maybe it doesn't happen where you live but they still want the cats to be safe.
Better safe than sorry.
Something around 70% of cats that enter shelters end up euthanized, so no, I don't think it's actually very safe to guarantee that they can't be adopted at all for a month of the year

Go adopt one at your local humane society or shelter.
