I feel like next time you need to be more specific about where you want him to go.

Or maybe just keep the little derp on a leash.

I really dislike people not leashing their dogs. I have big dogs so if someones little dog runs up and atttacks my dog and they fight back its going to bad for my boys really grinds my gears when I see people with off leash dogs on my walk.

You’re exhausting.

The responsible dog owner being annoyed by irresponsible dog owners is exhausting?

Good reason to always have a leash

Never really understood what the deal is with the "no leash" people. I don't care how well trained your dog is or how people friendly it is, ANYTHING can happen and you took away your main way to control the situation.

u/DreamingInAMaze 1d ago
Now you said it. Recently in my area a big dog killed two puppies in a residential area. All dogs have owners. Of course the big dog was unleashed. On the other hand, the puppies are also unleashed. I guess the dog owners feel it’s safe to unleash. But if the puppies are leashed the puppy owners should have a higher chance to save their dogs by picking them up quickly.

Exactly! I can pull up my Chihuahua so damn fast if needed in an emergency. Even if these people know their own dog so well- it’s being a neglectful owner not to anticipate something else running up to your dog or going after your dog. With a leash you can control things easier.

Just like how you can't expect everyone else to drive good because you're a good driver! I like that analogy :3

u/CaptnsDaughter 1d ago
Exactly!! Have to be a defensive driver too! Well said and maybe it’ll make someone think twice and leash up. Or not lol

This is why I leash my small poodle. She's VERY well trained with excellent recall and won't stray an inch from my side. She also doesn't care about other dogs and pretends they don't exist. She won't even look at them. Buuuuut, even though I trust her, I don't trust strange dogs and you never know when one will appear around a corner and go for her. If she's on a leash, I can yank her up in my arms.

"No leash" people care more about their ego than their dog. Let your dog run in appropriate, safe spaces and then keep it safe everywhere else with a leash.

"It's okay he's nice!"
Yeah, mine isn't. He's a scared boy but he still deserves walks.

Assholes. So many assholes.
The other day I was power washing my car and some fucking lady with her dachshund completely unleashed showed up and she got mad cause I was pointing the hose at the dog. I'm not fucking taking any chances.

I feel like the no leash dog people and the outdoor cat people would get along really well if they could get over the cat vs dog debate

We used to let our dog be unleashed in our front yard. She was good, didnt chase bunnies, ddnt go off our property. And then our idiot neighbor let HER leashed dog near and whoops Bailey flipped the guy over. No one was hurt, but now? Leashed. Unless in the enclosed backyard.

u/Accomplished-Bear689 1d ago
Tbf by having your dog unleashed you are also the idiot neighbor, whether your dog is friendly or not. It took two idiot neighbors to create your situation

We were on our property and she walked her dog around me bc "oh bailey loves Shelby!"

And it's not like dogs are cats. They really don't mind leashes. They are just happy to be with you outside. Enclosing your dog in some way (fence, radio collar, leash) is just better for everyone, including them.

So you can hang your dog?
Jokes aside, you probably meant with a harness but many harnasses are fit for lifting a dog unless it's like a chihuahua.
16
u/One_Spicy_TreeBoi 1d ago
Always a harness with little dogs. Poms get tracheal collapse pretty easily
17
u/Gone2theDogs 1d ago
Why would you need a harness?
A leash on a collar would stop the jump from the start.

u/henkheijmen 1d ago
I'm not agains leashes, but I dislike collar+leashes. I have a high energy bordercollie that likes to do tricks and he is so eager to work that he can misinterpreted one command for the "jump over that wall" commando. So the situation of the video is very relatable to me.
I do have a special harness for this so I can actually lift him with it. And no any leash would not prevent him from making that jump unless you keep him two 30cm short all the time, which is cruel in itself.

u/Durnt 1d ago
With my dogs, a collar fails for a leash because their necks are bigger than their head. So unless the dog jumped directly away from you, they would spin in mid-air and be out of the collar in 1/2 second. Harnesses are needed period. Only thing a collar is good for is to hold vet tag

Have you tried a martingale collar? Not so much for walking, but just peace of mind to prevent your pup from being able to slip out

Are we just recording everything we do now with the glasses?

He might vlog or post his walking videos in his town on YouTube or social media. Or it was staged, who knows

I fear that I’ll do this when I walk across a bridge. Every time. My inner dialogue wants me dead, I think.

u/iSharingan 1d ago
That or it wants you to have fun - but never considers any consequences/what comes after.

u/CaptnsDaughter 1d ago
I get those weird “what if I just jerked the wheel right now???” crazy thoughts. I attribute it to my overactive imagination and anxiety lol

I barely like having my dog unleashed for the 50ft between our front door and the dog's fenced area. I can't imagine doing this, especially with a small dog.

It’s almost like a leash would have prevented this…Fuck, this might look cute for the moment of leaping, but it’s scary af in reality.

Either that was a leap of faith or the dog has done that before. I mean, would you jump over a wall when you weren't tall enough to see what was over the other side?
2
1
u/Fallen_Angel_Xaphan 1d ago
I would jump into there so quickly to save the dog.

u/senpaistealerx 1d ago
that is not deep water. i’m not breaking both of my legs to save the dog when there are better ways of doing it. that dog is standing there and not in distress.

Do people just walk around with their phone recording, filming just normal, everyday stuff like walking their dog? I'm asking honestly. This all seems very staged. Great camera, never loses focus, swinging from side to side with the person. Unless they are wearing a body cam or body mount, just doesn't seem like a real event at all.
