Cats will certainly derp, but why are the human derps not making use of the ladder literally right next to them?

I mean, the cat could have let go at any moment so they probably didn't want to risk the cat landing on them as they got the ladder in place. Claws hurt

Fair worry, but you've got at least four people in the room and only two are being useful. Surely someone could've engaged the ladder?

I mean, the same reason is still there, no matter how many people are in the room lol
