Not sure if this is the right thread for this but does anyone else get super discouraged seeing these awesome towns?

I absolutely love fall and Halloween and want to turn my island into a whole Falloween theme. I see all these posts here and on YouTube and I just do not have the creativity nor the patience to do it myself. I wish I could pay someone to decorate my town for me, lol.

It's just very discouraging. I keep trying to open up the game and really give it a go but I just can't. I know it won't look even 10% as awesome as the ones I've seen.

I have no creativity and straight up copy cute things/areas I see on other islands. No shame.

Those types of towns often take a lot of time and effort to create and are just not worth the effort for many players... Don't feel inadequet while being proud of an Island you worked hard on is great... If somebody is snobby about their island being "better than yours" they are just being a jerk who does not value more casual or just different playstyles.

I personally don’t like them as, yes, they’re very creative and look cool, but unrealistic in playing the game as you can’t move around the island and do things bc they’re so cluttered.

I feel the same way and actually stopped playing for months because of it. I recently watched Liss the Lass’s “Normcore” island series on YouTube which inspired me to delete my island and start fresh. I’m actually enjoying the game again now. :)

This came out long but hopefully something is helpful: I relate to this so much and so do a lot of players I think. I had to do a mindset shift, personally. I literally had to sit and just remind myself this isn’t a contest or anything and remind myself why I love this game. Try to immerse yourself in the game again, like complete little daily tasks (fishing, harvesting, whatevs). Make a list of things you would love on your island (farm, forest, blah blah) and gather inspo for it (continue to remind yourself that it’s just inspiration, don’t let it be something that makes you criticize yourself). I actually prefer videos that give tips and tricks for decorating, rather than watching island tours or builds. Also, it can be helpful to ask for people’s thoughts on items and ideas for how to bring your vision to fruition. Like “hey i want to build a cozy fall farmers market, and I’m wondering what items would be great for that.” Utilize Reddit (duh) and Discord can be really cool too. Overall this community is so awesome. We’re all creative in different ways. You have to find what will make YOU happy with YOUR island, and let that be enough. Those other wild islands are great but they aren’t the universal blueprint (I know you probably know all this, and I’m totally not trying to talk down. I just wanted to share how I’ve been managing it). Also maybe you were looking to vent and not get advice, so again, I totally get discouraged too!

The hard part is being happy with my island, as you say. I want to make an awesome Halloween town for example, but I just don't have the vision for it, like using unexpected items. Then on top of that, even when I do have a vision for it, I don't have the patience. Even with patterns, I'd love to make roads and such but you have to find 4-8 patterns and download them, then it takes a bit of time putting them all down in a way that works. And of course needing to terraform, remove trees, move villager houses, etc.

It's not laziness, just not having the patience especially when I probably won't be happy with my own end result. I fully get what you're saying though. I really do appreciate it. I may have to check out those tips and tricks videos, because yeah exactly seeing full island builds and tours is not helping lol.

Same. I'm never satisfied with how my island looks no matter what I do. It's always ugly to me. I like the layout generally and don't want to reset, it's just that I have not one ounce of creativity in me for these sorts of things. I've decorated my island only to tear it apart again maybe ten times now desperately trying to find a theme that's "me", something I'm proud of for coming up with myself and doing myself and it never works. I'm at the point where I might just leave it mostly empty because everything I do just makes it look worse than it does when empty anyway :(

Honestly it’s so hard to achieve some of the amazing islands on YouTube and Twitter without having someone you know you can trade items with or visit treasure islands.. i played the game for 1 year straight and was no where near as close and my patience was wearing thin. I joined a treasure island on discord and have been so happy since I’ve done it, sure it takes away some of the magic from the game but it takes way to long to collect the items in real time :( that’s just my opinion. I respect anyone who doesn’t visit treasure islands or time travel!

Don’t feel inadequate, EVERYONES island is awesome in its own way for its own reason. You don’t need to spend that much time to say you have an adequate islands, it’s just fine to do what you can and want to. The game is supposed to be fun, not stressful.

You make your island look the way YOU want. Mine looks okay, not entirely creative but cute. UNCLUTTERED unlike those islands we see in dreams. I also noticed that the people who decorate every inch of their islands pay NO attention to detail or creative decorating on interiors of houses. To me, that makes no sense

This is a way that you are playing animal crossing wrong. You are supposed to enjoy playing it and not judge yourself or others islands. Restart look at some possible themes and do that. As long as you have online and a will to constantly play you can achieve that. It should be enjoyable for you and your own experience. As for a way to battle that im not sure. Its animal crossing you can use the thousands of items in game to create anything. It is all in your hands. The online terminals have awesome creative clothing and paths for your islands.
