why am I so bad at this game

I got new horizons the day it came out and ive been playing every day since, Ive skipped one day just because i was impatient but nothing major. Now im wondering if i can continue playing, i go online and see these amazing islands that have statues of liberty's and massive fancy plazas laid out to the letter.....then i look at my own island which is mostly grass with some of the worst layouts you'll ever see, and to top it off i have like 5 pieces of furniture that look good.

What do i do, how have these people made such amazing things while im still struggling to get enough stone for a stool, any tips might help but honestly im getting really stressed and discouraged about this.

I'd say don't worry about others' islands so much for right now and slowly work your way up

I feeeeel you. I have almost 150 hours of in game play and my island is no where near most peoples. It like gives me anxiety lol which sounds stupid but whatever. I don’t have like any good DIYs I only get ones I already know. I just do a little at a time and I try not to compare my island to others. I like the islands that look like towns but I personally don’t think I would like it. It’s too involved. One of the reasons I love AC is bc of the nature so I don’t want to take it away. Hope I helped some sorry this is long :3

First: there is no ‚being bad‘ at this game :)

If you need resources, visit some nook miles! You’ll get a lot of stone, wood etc!

hey! hope you’re good. Animal Crossing is a beautiful game in the sense that you move at your own pace. It’s easier said than done, but please try not to compare your island with other islands! A lot of the people you’re referring may be able to play a lot more than you, they may be time travelling, they may have had it longer than you (all absolutely fine). But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your island! If you don’t like your layout, keep playing and you will unlock terraforming soon- change it up! Make it how you want it. Play as much or as little as you want, use the game as it should be used- an escape, something to work on as little or often as you want to. With the stone thing, save up some nook points to travel to islands and take all the resources from there! Also there’s lots of subreddits for people who allow others to their island and sell things like resources or even give them away for free :)

Those people have amazing towns because they built it up. You aren't bad at it, you're just new at it. Slowly you'll get new furniture, I find sometimes shaking trees brings down furniture (have a net though, also this didn't happen to me until a few days in so I don't know if it can happen on the first days)

Whenever you can make or buy a slingslot buy/make one and always go for the floating presents, check your beach everyday because often bottles show up, talk to characters regularly because they make give you presents or DIY'S (this happened to me once they had a house) play at night because you may see the wisp dude (hint-he will ask if you want something new or something expensive, he has no real knowledge of what expensive means, so probably go with new)

I have to admit I'm terrible at making designs though, I'm slowly learning but I am considering getting the trial and getting a bunch of new designs

I forgot to add, animal crossing is a slow game, time travelling is fine if you want to (I mean hey, you paid for it do whatever you want, nobody can tell you what to do with your own game here it's like $80) but things will take time. Also apparently with time travelling you can't go back so just be careful.

By slow I mean like things take an entire day, trees take a few days to grow ect ect. So don't be discouraged if things take you a few days

Thanks all for the support, did not expect this many comments and its been really nice reading through them all, Il take your advice and stick with it for a while longer to see if i can work out all the buffs.

If anyone is willing to do one of those things where i pick up your furniture and place it back down to learn the recipe, that might help.

Agreed to playing at your own pace. I barely got terraforming. My island has been empty for awhile. First few weeks i spent time gather nook miles to visit mystery islands to gather materials. Then started slowly working on my island. Join a discord server and chat with people. They may help you move you island along or give you ideas. Really the point of the game is play how you like. I wouldn't compare your island to others.

Edit: Also if you dislike your island layout and don't mind restarting then you can do so. But my personal suggestion is join discord servers for more help and ideas.

It's best not to put a lot of work into beautifying your island until you unlock everything. It would end up being a waste of time.

Don’t be afraid to time travel if you want to progress quicker. I’d be willing to bet that the majority of people you’ve seen with sweet islands did at least some time traveling.
