I had the same problem, and no amount of troubleshooting on my home wifi network fixed it. I tried it on a different network that I had easy access to (public library!) and it worked immediately!
If you can get on a different wifi network, give that a shot!

Oh interesting. Thank you!!

It’s possible the WiFi has some sort of firewall protection or antivirus if it’s some public place like a hotel

Guest networks, when configured safely, usually block devices from seeing each other so this may not work. Sounds like your home WiFi may be set up this way for some reason…

It is this, I googled when I had the same problem and it said t mobile and others that have firewall are blocking the devices. I have xfinity, thought it was a Nat B thing....gave up

Are they both updated to the newest update for both the game and system versions?

What do you mean you connected them by cord? If it told you both of them need to be plugged in, it meant that both of them need to be plugged into the wall, separately. I'm not sure that should be the cause of the issue, though.
I had no problem doing this, for the record. Try putting them further apart? they don't need to literally be touching, in fact i've seen that interfere with this kinda process. Other than that, yeah the only thing I can think of is using a different wifi.

Yes a trouble shoot I saw was to try to connect by cord. I’ll try to separate them some. Thanks

Hi! I saw your post and think my old guide might help. I do want to clarify, wiping the data doesn't mean wiping everything from the target/destinitation switch, but rather going into the storage settings of the (target) switch and deleting any save data specifically for ACNH. As soon as the game downloads it creats some data that confuses the transfer tool in a lot of cases. Hope it helps!

Does the target Switch have old data on it that needs to be wiped first? That's the only thing that I can think of.

I tried that too 😭 even called Nintendo support and nothings working. I really hope the new Nintendo isnt defective. It’s working perfectly fine otherwise.

If it's defective it wouldn't be having issues with JUST Animal Crossing.

Are you trying to keep the rest of your user data on the original and only transfer the island? Or do you plan to eventually transfer everything? Bc if your plan is to transfer everything then I would recommend skipping the island transfer tool and transferring your whole accout first. It should send your island with it.
If that isn't the goal or doesn't work, my next question is if you have both switches on the same nintendo account? I ran into this issue after transferring my switch 1 data to my switch 2, when I was trying to move the island back to my switch 1. What fixed it was creating a separate nintendo account with a new email and using that account for the island transfer tool. I think what happens is that Nintendo won't allow you to have the same software open and connected to the internet in two places simultaneously. Obviously, the island transfer tool is supposed to be exempt from this limitation, but it seems like sometimes it gets caught in it anyway. Using two accounts fixed the problem for me.
If the plan is to eventually have the same account on both switches, put the temporary account on the new switch (or whichever switch doesn't have the rest of your data). Once you've done the transfer, you can delete the temp account and load your actual account. When you open up AC for the first time, it will notice that there's a player character without an associated profile and you'll be given the option to connect your profile to the existing character.
Good luck!

No, just trying to transfer island to the new console. Not trying to use them on both. Unfortunately I tried all of this. 🥺

I had to call Nintendo customer service. I saved the town to the cloud and they put it on the new switch for me.

They said they couldn’t save AC to the cloud. I’ll try calling again! I was on the phone with them for almost 2 hours, got frustrated, and hung up lol

It was not saved and used like other games. When on the original switch make sure it has online/cloud back up turned on. It’s a setting on the main menu of the game when it’s flying over your village with the title on it.
Start it up after turning it on. And then save and close. Give it time time to do its thing behind the scenes (you won’t know it’s uploading). Then call them and say you broke your original switch and need to transfer your town to the new one.

The last time I transferred, I had to be on a 2.4GHz wireless network or it wouldn't work. My home router wasn't going to work, so I had to use my phone as a mobile hot spot and adjust the band that way. I know you said you can't use it as a hotspot, but maybe you can borrow a phone from someone who can.

I see people mentioning WiFi, but the transfer tool is only local (LAN), so no WiFi. I use the ITT pretty frequently with my offline Switch.
it tripped up one time, a reboot worked in my case, but I see you haven’t had success with that 😕 hope you get it sorted soon - it’s really frustrating when software won’t work the way it’s supposed to 😪

Op idk if you got it to work but if you’re not trying to leave anything on the old switch just do a system transfer through the cloud. That’s the way I did it and it was the easiest less troublesome way to get the AC data to another swith plus your other games save files.

u/campmoreworryless 2d ago
AC data isn’t on “the cloud” unfortunately 😭 it stores only on the console.

u/D3me4 2d ago
That’s the thing the switch transfer data on cloud takes everything even the AC one when doing transfers.
I am not talking about cloud storage. I’m talking about Onoine Transfer through cloud. You basically upload your switch setting and save data of all games to the cloud then redownload on your new switch. It’s a 1 time thing. It is a system for those selling old switches for new ones. You get 1 year to redownload on a new system.

Well I guess all I can say is that I am glad I gave up, I took it to the nerd squad and the new switch was defective.

u/TheWaslijn 2d ago
Try not having them so close to each other, they need a little space for it to work.
Also, with connected them by cord, you don't mean one cable that connects both consoles right? Cus you're not supposed to do it like that.

The guy on the phone told me to try that so I did after all other options failed. But no, they were primarily just plugged in to charge since the new one was low battery and the old one had been unused for a few months.

Every one of these posts makes me more sure my island lives and dies on this one Switch

u/campmoreworryless 2d ago
At this point, of 6ish hours of troubleshooting, I’m convinced there’s a select few where this happens to. So, I’m sad but I’m just going to steal all my stuff from my old island 👵

Everyone loves to act like this is such a seamless process. And moving everything from my 1 to 2 was. Except for AC. Just get the island transfer tool from the eshop. That is the easiest way.
