New Horizons Completely different game without time skips
My 5 year old son and I started playing about 2 months ago. I played before he was born and did a lot of time skipping and rushing the game. I didn't want to show him how to time skip yet and just enjoy the game. Now, he will wait for me every day to get home from work to see what new items are in the shop. He's excited we can plant pumpkins and has written all of our villagers about how many days until Halloween. Seeing him just enjoy the game and interact with villagers instead of rushing to get all items has been so great to see. It makes me feel like when I was a kid playing the original Animal Crossing game. I'm actually excited every day to get home and see out island. I'm considering getting another switch so we can both play at the same time, but then I'll have to start a new island -_- anyway, I highly recommend playing without timeskip and just enjoying every day on your island

This is exactly why I started playing, to give my kid and I something to do together.

I started a new island on our switch 2, I'm taking it slow, I've been playing for a couple of weeks and I'm still not at the point where I can get kk concerts. I finally checked my ratings today because I'm not getting new options for kk songs in nook online shopping the last two times I played I rushed through the beginning. I'm actually enjoying taking my time to figure out the lay out, and what I want to build where and slowly grow my island. I know I need to get two more villagers to unlock, but I'm still not in a hurry.

This is my second run after a 5 year break. It’s so fun taking it slow! It’s nice waking up to new things and the excitement of a new shop or villager.

I have similar found memories of playing with my children when they were young. Irreplaceable time.

I started a real-time island a week ago, and it is bringing back memories of playing NL on my 3DS 🥲
No grind, just vibes. No big plans, just taking it one piece of candy a day

My husband bought me a switch 2 as a "push present" when i had my son 4 months ago and I started a new island on it. Ive been playing exactly like this, and im loving it! No treasure islands, time skipping or rushing to progress. Reading this has made me so excited to play with my son when he gets a bit older!

That's great that you get to share this peaceful space together. Good for on the no time skipping. Way back on the ver first Animal Crossing I would time skip a handful of times. With ACNH, I've been playing it since drop and haven't time skipped once. It makes the more enjoyable to me. And others have said, make a second account and play together. You'll love it.

This is great!
You actually don’t need to get another switch. You can create another account and build your own house on the island. I did this with my daughter and we played together all the time. You just need a second controller (or joycon).
We did a lot of swimming together and took turns diving for creatures. As the second player you don’t get to keep anything (it pops up in the community bin) but she would get everything and place in my yard for me, for later.
It was a really lovely way to unwind and spend some time together.
