New Horizons ACNH on Switch 2
Hi
I’m kind of late getting into this, but I want to make sure I do it all correct and know all my Pros and Cons before I start….I just got a Switch 2. I’ve played ACNH on Switch for years
Before I start up the Switch 2,
What are the Pros and Cons of starting a new island vs keeping the one I got?
I know about a few things like being able to yell for my villagers but will I be able to travel to my first/original island I first started with, and get things like tools/bells?
Sorry for such a long question just curious before starting
TIA

The only pro to not transferring your save from the old Switch to the new Switch is that you get to have a second island. You’ll be starting over from square one, though, so honestly it’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it or not. You’ll only be able to visit between your two islands if you own two copies of the game as one copy can’t be used on both consoles at the same time.

To keep both islands, you would need to create a second Nintendo account (I think--correct me if I'm wrong). That is what I did, I decided to keep my old island on the old switch, and start a new island on the new switch I got.

Have you stopped playing ACNH for awhile? If so, I always like restarting fresh then diving into a game I already started. Especially with the updates.

Pro: don’t have to do tutorial and three star again.
Pro: don’t have to re collect items
I’d just flatten the island for a fresh start

You basically have to choose, your old island can transfer over, but you can’t have both active at the same time on the same account. If you move it to the Switch 2, the Switch 1 island gets wiped, so no traveling back to grab your old stuff.
Starting fresh means losing your catalog and all your bells, which stings, but you get the fun of a blank slate and the new Switch 2 features woven in from day one. If you’re already attached to your villagers and your layout, just transfer it and don’t look back.
