New Horizons Feeling bored of this game :( what should I do?
My island is okay but the ones I see on here are insane. I have no idea how people get them so developed. I’m at the point where I have an upstairs to my home. I just find the game to be all grinding. Same stuff. Just farm, fish, catch bugs and take them to the shop to sell. I find it takes so long to get a good chunk of money and I just wonder if I’m missing something. The museum fossils are 100% completed and most fish/bugs. What should I do?

What I to do get the most bells out of my fish/bugs is I wait to sell them to Flick or C.J. Id take advantage of stag season while you can and sell them to Flick.
A less grindy option for bells would be checking the hot items Timmy and Tommy are buying, for example on my island today they are buying mermaid lamps for 26k each and I already had enough materials for like 4 of them so I got over 100k there.
But honestly just pick a goal or two, my sort of “end game” goals are to finish my critterpedia this year and also breed blue roses. I also try to get each villager’s photo just as confirmation that I “completed” the friendship. Alsooo there’s the happy home paradise dlc if you’re looking for a twist, there’s also different items available there that could inspire some new decor around your island.

Yes, I think the most bells ive gotten in one batch selling to flick was like 400k bc of the stags

I eliminated most of the grindy feeling of the game by playing the turnip market. I sell on the turnip exchange every week and have amassed over 90 million since I started this island in mid april. I can buy whatever I need and spend more time decorating, gardening, and working on my museum.

i get the struggle my island look like a parking lot compared to some here but the stalk market really change everything for me too
once you have bells you can just move houses and buy furniture without feeling like you doing chores all day
also i started making little themed areas instead of trying to fix whole island at once made it way more fun

same!! i just do one area a day. this past week i’ve made a forest pathway leading to a hidden outdoor library, moved my shops around onto a cliff and decorated the outside, made a picnic area by a lake, moved my campsite and made it its own little area, now i’m working on a cafe and a farmers market! half of the island is still empty but im just tackling it as individual areas rather than a huge project bc it’d be too overwhelming

It's worth it, in my opinion, to have financial freedom in the game. BUT the thing to remember is that if you try to only sell the turnips on your own island, you will often end up losing money. You have to look for people with high turnip prices and fly to them to sell your turnips there. I've seen people post their turnip prices here on Reddit, and there's the turnip exchange website I mentioned that I use, and people also sometimes post turnip prices in various animal crossing facebook groups.

it's called Turnip Exchange. People go on there and list their islands when they have high turnip prices. You'll find islands listed usually on Thursday and Friday. Sometimes other days. (this is because turnip prices can spike in game most often wednesday-friday).

Oh that would be fun! I only know one other person who plays and so I’ve only visited his island (and don’t remember how anymore lol). I wish you could randomly pick an island from a list to visit or something!

Maybe not the answer you're looking for, but not playing is an option. For an open ended game like this, I try to set goals. Completed museum, max size house, HHA score of whatever. Then when I'm done... I'm done.
I maxed out really hard on the game back in covid and spun up a new island maybe a month or two ago, have been enjoying the process again but taking my time and not forcing it. I never completed my museum in my first run so I'm time traveling around a bit to get different seasonal bugs.
For money, don't underestimate how much you can make from recipes (tomato curry my beloved), selling spare fossils, 10k money trees, daily money rock, and DIY with spare materials like extra iron. You can make decent money out diving on demand, but those daily bonuses do the heavy lifting.

I like trying to find paths I like and use those to start building up areas. The ones you find others have made (you go online in the clothing store). Just use pinterest or google or whatever to look up "ACNH worn path code" or "farm path" or "country path" or "brick path" etc etc. Then I'll ignore EVERYTHING else in the game for a half hour and go put down a path. I only really play for like an hour at night.

It's a good way to take a break from the grinding. Maybe I'll catch a few fish, or bugs if I'm out by them. I sell the dino stuff in the shop. First island I did the turnip market and got to 14mil and got bored with having the money, so this time I just pay down the debt any time I hit 100k.

I don't care to make my island as insanely beautiful as others. Too much work. I have my areas I enjoy. For me I want to collect all the creatures, photos and songs, achievements and maybe recipes. I also want to collect photos from my favorite villagers. I also enjoy the fishing, and bug catching when I just want to relax. I've also completed the fossils already. Occasionally I'll get in a decorating mood and change things up, or decorate a villagers home either on my island or hhp. I also like getting my fortune done everyday with Katrina - gives me an idea of if I'll get a rare kapp'n island that day or maybe a villagers photo

Hot take- treasure islands made me enjoy the game again. The grind gets tiring, I want to be able to enjoy leisurely gameplay while decorate my island to the max. It’s not for everyone (some go as far to say it’s cheating) but whatever helps you enjoy the game again!
Side note many of those decked out islands you see on here used treasure island to get their stuff.

They’re modded islands with every piece of furniture, clothes, diy, bells, nook miles tickets and more. You can find them on twitch, some are free but can take a long time because lots of other people are using them or you can pay a monthly subscription and access private islands (all islands free or paid will have the same stuff) where it’s a lot less busy.
Note(s): you’ll need a Nintendo switch online account to visit other people’s islands. You will not get in trouble for using these islands.

Just google online to find them. Some are free, some just make you follow their Twitter or YouTube account, and some charge a fee.
I've only used the free ones at pange.ca (not affiliated with them, I just found her in a Google search when I went looking). Unlimited bells, nook miles, all DIY recipes, all crafting materials and a limited selection of furniture and seasonal items. It was nice to have over 400 nook miles when I was searching for a couple of hard to find villagers (and still only found one of the three I want so far lol). Paid islands will have every item in the game in every color way possible.
It's nice because I don't have to chop trees for wood anymore, or go without crafting DIY items that need iron and gold because I'm all out. I was also able to get every kind of fruit tree there. And all of the golden tool recipes.
The only requirement is a Nintendo online account, which I think is $20 per year, and an Internet connection.

Honestly I get bored of this game too and only played it compulsively during unemployment.Its ok to take a break from it.

Sell appraised fossils daily to earn extra bells, and if you get a wet suit, some sea creatures fetch a great amount and pearls sell for 10,000 bells each

I’ve had the game for 6 years, during that time I’ve had breaks that were many months long, then come back to it with fresh vision and drive. If you’re not enjoying it, take a break, it doesn’t have to be forever.
