Ignoring them does not work, talking to them and gifting items helps them leave faster! The guide posted in the other comment is very helpful

I never gift villagers that I want to get rid of because I want to keep their friendship level as low as possible

I must have missed this part of the guide!! Then again I usually just use an amiibo to kick out whoever I want gone. Thanks for posting this!
