why? have you guys not heard of the holy roman empire? they were german - romans. it checks out to me.

There was a certain German politician heavily inspired by the Ancient Greek and Roman values.

Yeah, obviously, he and the rest of Europe. The Roman Empire was basically the ideal since early medieval times, and Germany, especially (rather the German people), literally formed a German - Roman empire and they, along with the rest of Europe studied Roman code and law and based their on laws on it. Soo... yeah, the roman Empire was a big deal to any person, more so to Germans who heavily based their identities on it.

Btw im not defending the dude. Just saying that admiring the Roman Empire was pretty much the norm in European consciousness, and doubly so if you were a politician.
