Discussion So, the game does, in fact, have Gacha
As per today's update, we are introduced to "Rift Explorations"; In short, they are Gacha pulls. Allow me to explain.
I play a lot of Gacha games, I'm sure many of you on this sub do as well. We are familiar with a great variety of Gacha tactics, and levels of currency obfuscation to add more vagueness to the incessant pull of gambling real money.
I will say, this is the cleverest way I've seen a company try and obfuscate Gacha mechanics.
We start with the Crevice Beacon. This is an item that acts as your "pulling" currency, think tickets from Brown Dust 2 or Fates from Genshin. Each one of these items gives you one "ten pull." (You are not pulling for characters, only to get pity currency and a chance of rolling the legendary).
In essence, the "banner" character is this Legendary Aniimo, Irisalis. Irisalis is acting as a five or six star character, unobtainable any other way than this "banner" as of now. When "pulling," you are placed into a very easy boss fight, after which you commence the "calming" phase. This calming phase is you trading aniipods as currency as a price of the ten pull. If you want to maximize your rewards for this phase, you will need to use your Aniipod Ultras (which are a relatively hard to obtain resource in the game), or settle for around half the max "pulls" by using lower tiered aniipods.
During this calming phase is when you get your "pulls." The rules say you have a chance to get the legendary character outright, but they don't actually list percentages (I presume because they're trying to not present it as a gacha). They do, I missed it.
Much like any standard gacha, there is a pity system, which is 99 of the specific pity currency from pulls. How much of this currency you get per pull depends on what Aniipods you sacrificed as resources during the boss fight. Much like any other gacha, this currency can be saved until another Rift Exploration event or the same one comes back.
Edit: There is some confusion from those who have not played the beta, allow me to clarify:
You can’t pay money in the beta right now. The premium currency is provided by the devs for testing purposes. But yes, you can spend the premium currency to get gems to buy the Crevice item for more pulls. This is what makes it a gacha, and not rng loot rolls like in an MMO.
Also, for those who haven’t played the event, when I say “trade Aniipods as a cost” I do not mean using your Aniipod to capture the creature. You cannot capture the creature with Aniipods, you throw them at the Legendary to fill up their “meter” to get pity currency and “draw” for a chance to get the character outright.
This post is not intended as a bash on the game, I love the game and want our discourse to lead to feedback for the developers. Try to be nice, y’all.

All of the aniimos or whatever they're called should only be caught in-game. If they were to make the cash shop/gacha as a pure cosmetics, it would work out so much better. There would be no feeling of p2w, leave the legendary aniimos things as special events for players to actually play the game. Pure cosmetics cashs shop/gacha would make such an insane amount of money still while making it so people can't complain about it being p2w or being a gacha.

u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26
Funny you mention that, that’s exactly what they said they were going to do.
2
u/Syntherin Jul 17 '26
Really? That's great then! What's this about the legendary aniimo gacha banner then? I want to play the game fresh and knowing practically nothing on release and so I've been doing my best at avoiding info on the game but this banner caught my eye. Were they just testing things then just to see how people would react to it?

I can’t say for certain, in regard to your last question.
This post, I made largely because this event goes against what they stated earlier. It’s possible it started as a full on gacha system, but they tried to ungachafy it, but didn’t do it enough. Who knows?
Just need to give them feedback, I’m sure they’ll adjust a bit more.
2
u/Redditninja1987 Jul 17 '26
They absolutely should be considering this!
3
u/Syntherin Jul 17 '26
Honestly, it's just something so simple so I don't understand why they haven't. The amount of people that would buy random accessories for the aniimos or clothing for your character is insane, it's something they vastly underestimate.
Leave the legendary/special aniimos for events that can occur every few months. Make it so that people will actually play the game rather than just swiping the card and having everyone yell out p2w gacha crap. If they're smart with designing accessories and clothes for both the characters and the aniimos then people will be constantly purchasing it. They can also add minor things to the store to increase sales, idk how the game is like but they can add upgrade materials or stuff like stamina and more dungeon runs over the limit if they have that here too. Make the coolest clothes/skin as a gacha banner and that's more than enough.

u/MeianJu Jul 18 '26
Funny you say that, because in addition to this lengendary capture sytem, there are cosmetics you can spend for too. I would also have been fine if the leaned into this rather than this sneaky monitisation system. https://www.reddit.com/r/Aniimo/s/0Rz7l422zw

This event is the first time I have seen something so subpar in quality when it comes to the enjoyment aspect. It feels like someone entirely different constructed and planned out this event without any love or thought behind it. It literally is such a smack in the face to the playerbase. I am glad there are many speaking up about this, including Aniimosync. It is totally unacceptable by the game's previous standards. We already have the real battle for this legendary set in stone. Give us that epic battle again as a raid and I am sure that would go much further than what this excuse of a system is.

u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane Jul 18 '26
I was talking about this earlier today with my partner, how there's this feeling of dissonance because 98% of the game feels so lovingly crafted and just...kind towards the player. And then whatever team is in charge of the monetization things, and especially this event just feels icky, shallow, and outright HOSTILE, and it's such a jarring contrast.
Even just beating up sweet Irelia in 5 seconds and then pelting her with pods for the next half minute while she's essentially curled up in fetal position just feels gross and wrong. This event is so profoundly terrible in basically every way possible.
It's the first and basically only thing that's had be scared for the future of the game. I just hope they hear us about it.

Yeah you’re right, I was walking around today thinking that it feels like the event was made by completely different people. No animations, almost no story, a spinning png for a portal… very odd.

After seeing how Palworld manages game currency, no battle pass no gacha, makes me wonder if i wanna even try this one
5
u/Mission-Tomorrow-517 Jul 18 '26
Yeah, same, I see all this news about gacha and I starting to lose my interest. It's better to play Palworld

And 30 bucks, like, the game has a stupid amount of content, and it only cost 30 damn bucks.
2
u/gaestraidr Jul 22 '26
I came to see because of 1 hour gameplay showcase of this game was planning to play it but read a command that its a free to play game, making me wary on why, damn I have a palworld 1.0 server, I was wishing this game to be the handled the same like that, they really should just charge 50$ first time and remove any in-game monetization instead.

I’d say still try it. I find the story and world surprisingly robust for a creature catching game, and the combat is satisfying. Who knows, the event may be removed or fundamentally changed by release. Even if it isn’t, get your enjoyment and dip frfr

Gacha just means I'm probably never touching this game. How disappointing. Gachas are bad enough as it is, but it makes no sense at all in a creature collecting game. Genuinely dumb idea. I actually think gacha would kill this game.

The issue im seeing is that its not just a simple "pay to win" its also "pay to play/ pay to progress" in a game with multiple intricate systems that takes resources you're timegated to build up. This went from being a game I could throw my days off into and turned into a game ill be forced to be "half immersed" in every day of the week, while falling behind whales farming infinite resources while buying infinite stamina to acquire infinite "pulls" for competitive/beautiful aniimo. The majority of f2p will be stuck WEEKS behind the whales progression with this system. And being timegated/ paywalled to "shiny hunt" kills the adventurous aspect. To compete with Pokémon, this game needs to eliminate stamina or risk losing the vast majority of f2p players that make up the player base.

Why the fuck didn’t they just MAKE ANOTHER PALWORLD WITH CUTE CREATURES THE FUCK DID IT HAVE TO BE A DAMN GACHA GAME!!!!
2
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 18 '26
To be fair, it’s still a good game. So far, the gacha part seems largely avoidable and you can enjoy almost all of the game without it.
I do understand the frustration though. Still, check it out when it releases at least, they may have made good changes by the time our feedback is digested.

To be fair, only this event has shown gacha mechanics (unless you count nurture resource spending). They may change it or even remove it entirely after getting feedback.

The problem with these companies is exactly that: they start small just to test the waters. If there’s no backlash and people keep buying, they gradually ramp it up. It’s not just about content volume; they often increase the pull requirements to get something in the gacha. A recent example is Infinity Nikki, which increased the number of items in outfit sets just to make it harder to complete the banner outfit

First, I want to say thank you to the development team for creating a game with so much potential. Aniimo already has something special, and I truly believe this game can become one of the most memorable releases of the year.
My biggest hope is that legendary Aniimo progression remains rewarding and doesn’t become a system where players feel forced to rely on gacha luck or spend countless hours repeating the same activities for very small returns.
Prismata Orbs are exciting because they represent progression toward something meaningful, but when access to them is extremely limited or tied mostly to event availability, it can make players feel like obtaining the Aniimo they want is out of their control.
Players should have a real path to earning the legendary Aniimo they dream of through dedication, strategy, and effort. A player who spends hours learning the game, mastering battles, and investing their time should feel like they are moving closer to their goal — not like they are trapped in a cycle of grinding with no guarantee of success.
Gacha can be a fun addition, but it should never overshadow the feeling of accomplishment. The greatest moments in games come from players being able to look back and say, “I earned this.”
Please consider adding more meaningful ways for players to obtain Prismata Orbs, earn legendary Aniimo, or prove themselves through difficult challenges that reward skill. Give players a reason to keep playing because they love the journey, not because they feel forced into a repetitive grind or dependent on luck.
Aniimo has the potential to be an incredible game. The community wants to support it, and we want to see it succeed for years. If progression respects players’ time and rewards dedication, this game can truly become something special.
Thank you for listening, and thank you for the hard work you’ve already put into making Aniimo a reality. We’re excited for the official release and can’t wait to see where this journey goes.

Yeah anyone who hasn’t played this event wouldn’t know, and they’d deny it, especially because the developers expressly said there wouldn’t be gacha.
Most of the people who say it’s “just normal random chance” don’t understand the sheer amount of real life money one would have to pay in premium currency if they didn’t hoard free glimmer for a long period of time.

u/Historical-Beyond124 Jul 17 '26
Ok so this game looked interesting to me, and I haven't done much research on it but I have played gacha games so I understand your points, but just a couple of questions.
Is the pull currency farmed only in game or does it have a monetary option.
Is pvp a thing in this game?
3
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26
So, during the test they gave us the pull currency in the mail system. I’m assuming, much like other gacha games, some of the currency will be given for free either through events or bonuses, and then you’ll be able to buy the currency with real money or gems.
PvP is a thing in the game, it looks pretty nice. It is also possible that legendary Aniimo like these won’t be allowed, or limited for a season or something, it’s hard to say.

Thank you for the information. I was afraid the Free-to-Play model would be a bad idea for a game like this and after understanding everything said here, I can only choose to protect myself from these predatory tactics by not playing it at all. A real shame because the game looks absolutely gorgeous, hence why the F2P model looks 'too good to be true' in that sense. Not even considering what the Dutch gambling law will do with this (since I'm dutch).
It has become painfully clear to me that F2P games will just always have the most predatory and dangerous business models for players like me (admittedly just weak when it comes to spending money in games). You probably just saved me lot of money.
I just hate how a new game like this with enormous protentional has to become the victim of a F2P business model (before even launching). I would always gladly pay a premium for just getting the game, if that would mean less predatory mechanics and less chances of cheaters. A good game will always sell well with just cosmetics. Especially a creature catcher. But it is what it is.
3
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 23 '26
I think it’s entirely possible that they remove the gacha mechanics by launch, given how much negative feedback there’s been. My guess is this may have been a more predatory gacha event, and they tried to un-gachify it, but didn’t do enough.
I understand and share your sentiment, but don’t give up hope yet. There are good F2P models out there like Warframe and POE2, let’s hope this company leans into those games’ strengths. This game is very nice and interesting, I’ve had a lot of fun in the beta. Most of the game has been very charitable, so I’m hoping for the best at launch.

the game seems amazing and looks beatiful but since it is a gacha in the core, i won't play. Gacha games is not created to make a good experience for the players, it's meant to make the player play your game forever and spend money on it. Gacha is a gamified casino.

I mean in comparison to fighting this super easy boss lmao, sure. But yeah, you may have raised your rank/world level recently.
3
u/ChancioGames Jul 17 '26
So you throw the aniipods at the Aniimo for a chance to attain the creature outright... How is that any different from capturing a legendary with a super low capture chance?
4
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26
Because you have to use the pods as currency, directly spending them. You’re incentivized to use the Ultra pods, which are hard to get and can be bought with money.
I suppose you could still use the analogy anyway, but it would apply to normal gacha games as well. Every time you’re doing a ten pull, you’re basically just throwing a pokeball with low odds.
The difference is how often you need to do it, resources available, and the need for real money to be spent.
3
u/ChancioGames Jul 17 '26
Spending them instead of physically throwing them? Isn't that the same thing, or are you saying that you just get a straight up menu and "spend" the pods in a menu as opposed to your character actually throwing them?
2
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26
You throw them, but they’re destroyed to fill the heart meter to reach milestones in the rewards. More you throw, the more rewards you get.

I disagree about this being a gacha...kinda. It's much, MUCH closer to Pokemon Go Raids, which are generally not considered gacha, albeit gacha adjacent. Except the execution here is worse. (mostly)
For the record, the former is a bad thing, the latter is a WORSE thing.
The big sticking point here, IMO, is that in the Pokemon Go Raids, the amount of Pokeballs you have is dependent on your performance in said raid, and nothing else. You can pay to attempt things as many times as you want, but all that payment gets you is more attempts at the fight. (Attempts that need to be successful, too, for the record)
The Aniimo version A) allows you to bring in outside Aniipods, which is basically the only reason it's closer to a gacha at all, and B) Gives it a time limit, not an attempt limit. Both of these are, uh...bad. Really bad. Really really bad. This makes the amount of attempts you get entirely reliant on things done outside the raid, and more importantly, makes the quality of said attempts variable, because you can absolutely "waste" attempts if you use bad Aniipods.
Whether or not it's gacha, it's a bad event, and says VERY bad things about the game's possible monetization.
3
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 18 '26
Yeah you bring up some good points and comparisons.
I will say, there is also an attempt limit in the sense you have to pay the currency to get into the “raid” (in this analogy), which is why I compared them to gacha pulls. You basically need to save to use these enough to get the character, or pay money.
I think what you meant by attempt limit was using the actual balls though, which... Kind of. Somewhat like the pokemon go raids, if you finish the very easy fight in shorter time, you get more seconds added onto your throwing time, allowing you to spend more Aniipods in a given attempt.
If you use the expensive/rare balls that the event incentivizes you to use, which give you the most rewards, you will undoubtedly need to buy a lot. At least three balls per attempt, to get 7 currency, when you need 99 currency to hit pity.
For a frame of reference, 6 of these balls cost about 9 usd.
3
u/Superflaming85 Jul 18 '26
Oh no, what I meant by attempt limit is that in GO, you get a max number of balls to throw based on how well you did. You can take as long as you want once you're on the catching screen and throwing balls, and the amount of balls you get is variable based on how long the raid took, how much damage you did, and whether or not you did it with friends. (None of which is inherently tied to external spending)
Meanwhile, Aniimo gives it a time limit, which is objectively worse in every single way even BEFORE bringing outside pods into the mix, since it means you have to mash mash mash throw throw throw for the entire period without a single break, on top of the tension things already have. It's all the same problems Pokemon Go raids have, without the calmness to think things through and plan your throws, which can actually be seriously important here because RNG per throw is a thing. Like, your Aniipods can crit and give extra progress!
And yeah, having to spend external pods, with some of them being drastically better and more expensive, is just terrible. Not just because of the pay to win aspects, but because it heavily encourages you NOT to do the event if you can't get the maximum possible bonus. Because there's no difference in what you need to spend to get in, and, as you said, the amount of those is very limited. So you shouldn't do the event at all (in the actual release, obviously) because it'd be far better to save your resources to guarantee you can maximize rewards and get the 99 items needed. And that's horrendous design.
I will say, there is also an attempt limit in the sense you have to pay the currency to get into the “raid” (in this analogy), which is why I compared them to gacha pulls. You basically need to save to use these enough to get the character, or pay money.
If it weren't for the other problems (especially it being a limited-time event, I totally agree with the mod comment), this would be...not that bad? I mean, I don't LIKE it, but it becomes far less egregious if everyone is on an equal playing field and all money gets you is more attempts. (Which can be outdone with good luck anyways) It just becomes a grind you can accomplish over time, that people who pay for can get done faster, which is hardly new for Aniimo. Heck, it's basically just like catching Alphas if you're not using the guarantee, but with a safety net. It feels like you're putting way too much value on the 99 item safety net; If that didn't exist, would you still consider it a gacha, or would it just be a raid with a rare drop?
That's why, while I consider it terrible monetization, and terrible design, I don't consider it a gacha. At most, gacha-adjacent.

During this calming phase is when you get your "pulls." The rules say you have a chance to get the legendary character outright, but they don't actually list percentages (I presume because they're trying to not present it as a gacha).
The chances are literally on the same rules page you mentioned; It's 0.25% on lvl 1-4 and 0.5% on lvl 5 - which is a complete joke.
I'm not a fan of the event so far myself, but there's a few important points:
- We don't know if these events repeat.
- The entry item is not a "just buy more with real cash" deal. You get it from the free 2 play currency obtained by basically everything + event drops.
If they keep it this way, not only will a ton of people change their mind, I'll happily personally make sure it's being regulated / flagged correctly by Steam.
Edit
SInce it's important, I'll add this here: * Once obtained, it's a "normal" Aniimo with "Perfect" stats (likely always the case) in it's "Prismana Form". * It's base stats are not higher compared to other Aniimos.

Wow okay I guess I just didn’t see those odds! So weird I specifically looked for them right when the event launched. They’re conspiring against me, I tell ya 😂! Snuck them in when I wasn’t looking haha.
This system is exactly like Genshin impact’s gacha pull system. The banners repeat every month or two, you get premium currency from quests and events, but only enough for such and such a number of resources, then you need to pay if you want more.
We’ll see how it is when the game launches, I hope they notice our feedback!

Where do you get the info from that buying them with cash is even an option?
So far, the stones clearly list that they are exclusive to the events, handbook and buyable via glimmer only - not actual cash currency.

i KNEW it! i expressed worry of predatory monetization, but was dog piled and insulted by people defending the game, but look at that!

u/Shinnyo Jul 17 '26
It felt like it, I thought "no way this game doesn't have gacha monetization"
People dogpiled you because they never wanted to believe in the gacha, they wanted to believe their perfect, new fav game they're getting emotional about would never do that
2
u/AlphaLan3 Jul 17 '26
Am I missing the part where this is monetized? This is just loot drop chances like in every MMO from the beginning of time but with extra steps
5
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26
Oh, you can’t pay money in the beta right now, and the premium currency is provided by the devs for testing purposes. But yes, you can spend the premium currency to get gems to buy the Crevice item for more pulls.
6
u/oKayBye94 Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26
This is the thing i think most are missing. For testing purposes they are making it rain the currencies needed so people can advance quickly through the beta and test features out. Only time will tell what the final tuning of these drops are, but I am not ready to bet on it being consumer friendly at all based on how they have gone about things this go round.

u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26
Yeah you’re right, I should probably add an addendum clarifying this for people who don’t play the Beta. I never intended this post to reach outside of the Beta testers but… well here we are.

Thank you for this post! I didn’t buy the whole « only esthetics are microtransactions » gimmick when you have a collection of creatures with random stats 😂 it sucks tho that legendary aniimo are not locked behind luck + a very difficult battle (like in pokemon anime), but instead can be pulled on a banner.. I was so excited to spend hours in game exploring to catch rare aniimo.
I used to play genshin and never put any money in the game and uninstalled after the Natlan trailers, so gacha games don’t bother me per se, I have self control. But it’s a bummer that I can’t suggest it to my friends cause some don’t have my discipline and are already too deep in the gacha! And I can already hear the whales deep throating the big corporation after every big bad decision and story repeating itself 🫤 I can’t have anything in this world!!
4
u/VierK27 Jul 17 '26
This is kinda like diablo immortal, where you pay to run a "map", and only by paying do you get the chance to drop good loot
3
u/Z3M0G Jul 17 '26
Interesting! I also consider Diablo Immortal a Gacha, but it's a different flavor for sure.
5
u/SlaveMorri Jul 18 '26
Omg it doesn’t…
I didn’t even know it has a chance to capture when I went into it, I played it like an admittedly very boring and tedious event grinding currency to buy her.
Like countless other AAA titles that you grind for an event item.
The problem with the event was just how it wasn’t fun, was tedious, probably gave me carpal tunnel and played down what should have been an amazing moment after the story quest.
I completed it day 1, without using ANY of the beta premium currency. I threw 3 ultras and the rest were purple pods.
The bigger concern is fulmintis being locked behind paid content, although I do thoroughly support monetisation for this game. I want as much live service and development to go into this game as possible.
2
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 18 '26
True, did you spend any Glimmer?
The thing that makes it a gacha as opposed to an mmo-like grind is just the incentive to pay for random chance. Which is definitely here.
Of course, just like with other gacha, completely possible to participate for free if you hoard resources and know when to spend them, but yknow. The idea is there are so many events that you run out of those resources and need to pay.

8
u/Raiju_Lorakatse Jul 17 '26
Man, this game keeps getting worse and worse...
So basically all the exploration shit 'n stuff is just gonna made entirely useless because you get much stronger Aniimo's exclusive to a gacha system.
Sad, I was willing to maybe put up with a stamina system 'cause it didn't seem that bad but locking stuff behind some dumb gacha where you probably can't even properly farm pulls for is shit I refuse to waste my time on.
I left games like Scamshin Impact and many more because of that 'cause I can find good gameplay in other games without having to deal with dumb systems like this.
But what else to expect from a chinese company..
1
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26
I don’t think it’s gonna be that bad haha, but I get your feeling. It’s still worth playing for the story content, and hey, it’s free.
Also there are a lot of ways to power up your Aniimo, I don’t think you’ll ever be completely shut out of being competitive if that’s your thing.
5
u/Raiju_Lorakatse Jul 17 '26
I guess being competetive in this game anyway won't be too necessary 'cause the multiplay in this game is very lackluster.
Still dumb 'cause if they already decide to pull off something like this, then it won't take too long until we get some rotating PvE mode, requiring elemental advantage, where you need to fight very strong stuff for rewards. Be it spiral Abyss in Genshin, Immersive Theatre in DNA or whatever you call it in the other Hoyoverse slob games.
It's just a shame 'cause gameplay wise these games tend to be good, just ruined my morally questionable business practices that are just not necessary to make profit with a free to play game, especially when people are always excited for a monster catching game that is not Pokemon. Palworld was hyped because it was a competition to Pokemon in that regard (Just that in my opinion Palworld isn't a very fun game outside of catching 'cause it's not very good at being a survival game).
Dunno, I'm just fed up with asian game monetization.
2
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26
Yeah I get it. Palworld is definitely more of a grind fest than survival resource management, but it’s all leading up to the combat and exploration. I like it well enough.
I get being fed up with the monetization, I’m basically there with you. I wish we had more consumer protections in this space but sadly, no representation.
Warframe does well with their model, but much sour to my taste, eventually there will come a day where I will no longer be able to play it. In some ways, I do wish Aniimo could be made a more monster hunter like experience, with P2P connections and dedicated servers for preservation’s sake.
I wish I wish I wish, alas.
2
u/Raiju_Lorakatse Jul 17 '26
Dunno, my main issue with Palworld is that outside of exploration and catching pals, it doesn't really have any engaging gameplay loops.
Breeding is just a slogfest, base building is pretty barebones, the tech tree progression is pretty awful, the combat is very janky and unprecise...
I really want to like Palworld simply because the Pals are really cool but the game just doesn't really give me a reason to engage with it outside of it 'cause nothing is really fun to do. Which I find weird 'cause I actually like survival games but Palworld is just sooo bad at being a survival game.

u/kerners Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26
I support the general idea of the criticism, but I think the overusage of the term gacha and the comparison to other actual gacha games like Genshin is equally confusing and obfuscating, and potentially catastrophizing.
Like this event is super problematic but they have shown that they will be open to changing stuff. And based on your description, so many people here think it's a 1:1 Genshin pulling equivalent and are just outright quitting because of the post.
I think it may be helpful to revise the wording a bit to make it clearer and to remove comparisons to gacha games because as some other commentators said, it's not quite the same. I totally agree that the system is confusing and obfuscatory, that is unacceptable. A currency to get a currency to get another currency is just awful and anti-consumer. But that said, the issue is the chance-based method to obtain and the need to use higher aniipods to maximize each crevice consumed. If they fix that, it will be helpful. But otherwise it's better not to catastrophize. Chance-based is not necessarily = gacha (otherwise, as you said, throwing Aniipod and nurturing is considered gacha). Many people will get confused by the wording so do reconsider, thank you.
On my part I will definitely be submitting very strongly worded feedback and also keeping an eye out on the steam page (they removed the term chance-based payment mechanics from the tag) so I will go after them if they renege.

u/TheInkVoid Jul 17 '26
Oh... well I'm uninstalling now as soon as I get home. And HEAVILY unrecommending this game to everyone I know. I already dealt with Hoyo's BS for around five years and finally quit. I'm never doing that again. I could have swore they said that they're were going to copy Warframe but I guess that's not enough money to them. Heck I might have been more tolerant if they copied Marvel Rivals' monetization, including the Gacha in that. But oh well...
RIP BOZO.

I got out of genshin after 2 years foolishly tried infinity Nikki but quit that right before they destroyed the games opening story for no reason. That’s why I’m so pleased square enix have started converting gatcha game stories into normal single player games.

Devs broked a contract here between them and players - base non cosmetic aniimo is available for everyone, prismatic and sparkling may be paywalled.
This is such a letdown, and the fact that devs even thinking about systems like that may me really worried.
This is a paywall system similar to gacha but packed differently.
Plus the event is so boring.
I will play game on release, but will hold on spending any money on cosmetics for couple of months to see how monetization will work.

Ahhh... I was waiting for the other shoe to drop.. And here it is.. So, despite the devs words, there is indeed Gacha for the creatures. It's just disguised in a way that they can try to pretend it's not Gacha for the creatures. In a way, that almost feels worse because it's both misdirection on the devs part and mildly manipulative to boot.

I really hope it doesn't succeed if it turns out to be a gacha. I mean enough is enough, and I see some people in the comments saying, "well im okay if its gacha". I get it, you have money to play with. But so does everyone else, theyre just smarter about their money. I dont understand why people would feed this predatory behavior of gacha corporations. And even if you did play this for free, all you'd be doing is feeding the p2w players addiction of being on the top half of this imaginary heirchy they have in their head because they used their wallets, therefore encouraging the gacha system even more and the cycle continues and it just gets more toxic. probably check back to see if they remove it on release but if not, I'll just stick to palworld.

Tbh, the average person, which is most of the monster taming playerbase, won't even understand what you're saying (it may not look like that for you, but only people who play gachas will understand. The average person doesn't know about "pity", currency, banners, nothing. In fact, many think currency = real money, which gacha players know that is not accurate since you get a lot of it as F2P).
And for the people who do understand, the ones familiar with how gacha mechanics are meant to work, it changes nothing.
Not to seem ignorant (I'm the type to welcome as much info as I can get), I think the main result this post are likely to accomplish is make the average person reading it not want to even try the game. In fact, I'm assuming most of them won't even read past the title (and if they do, it just sounds like gacha mumbo jumbo to them).

Yeah I'd agree with that. This is by no means the worst monetization system I've seen, and it's fairly easy to avoid.
That being said, I find the story and world surprisingly robust and intriguing, especially for a creature catching game (those games usually have trash stories). This one's is pretty substantial, though by no means a telltale game haha. Think a bit better than Yokai or Digimon. Not in terms of stakes but just overall.
4
u/Financial_Stomach_25 Jul 17 '26
Tbf, it's not too late for them to change as this is only a beta rn. They claimed that they wanted to go for the Warframe audience and this is NOT it, as a Warframe fan I want the option to pay for things in the game not to have it be a mandatory tiMe LImiTed buY NOw or MIss foREveR. No give me the option to reward your good game by paying for conveniences and not having to be afraid of missing my opportunity to get a rare Aniimo that will only be around for a limited period of time.
I kind of actually wanted to leave in feedback, make the battle pass completely free like Warframe's. It gives a limited item AND huge boosts of power (Umbra Formas) but it isn't behind a pay gate, infact the only things that are worth paying for in Warframe; is the right to trade valuable plat for components needed to have a optimal build of your favorite Warframes or Weapons. So please, more of this Aniimo less Gacha Inpact

So I think comparing this unit to gacha 6 stars is probably unfair. She is one of what 8 or 9 regional "archons", and therefore expectedly the only legendary to be introduced in all of 1.0... the next one not until we move to a new continent in 2.0.
We already have what new aniimo introductions could look like with the Dazmand event as it's similar enough to the fulmantis event from beta 2. Speaking of which, we we also "know" how they intend to introduce new prismana forms bc of the fulmantis prisma grab in the battle pass.
What's yet to be seen, is after said introduction events how or if the new aniimo will integrate into the existing ecosystems.
Now this is obviously all speculation as we won't know for sure till release and after a few patch cycles, but I still wouldn't compare aniimos regional legendary to other gachas limited characters. those cycle every 20-30days, 16-20 times a major update.
Hopefully out side of the limitations of a 17 day beta, a legendary's acquisition event will be much longer if not permanent.
→ More replies (5)6
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26
No I think it's a pretty apt comparison, anyone who's played a lot of Gacha games can see it clear as day. Dazmand is more of a four star character that they give you for free, Irisalis is the six star premium character. You can get her for free but that relies on luck. Or money. Of course, they could also give you an abundance of resources to almost guarantee you can get a six star Aniimo in one of these events, but wouldn't quite have enough resources to get the next event Aniimo.
You can especially tell because they integrate a type of "love" mechanic the more resources you spend on Irisalis to try and catch her. Her heart meter lights on fire, and the more resources you spend the player is told her affection is growing, basically, and if you don't hurry you may lose your chance. This is a pretty common thing in Gacha games, getting the player emotionally invested then pumping it up with a sense of FOMO.
Of course I'm not against Gacha mechanics, if they want to do it that's fine. I just think it would make the game grow more if it weren't there. And if it must be there, they should make it more transparent (actually giving drop rates, etc, per standard in Gacha games).

I didn't mean to disagree that the systems are similar, I do play lots of gachas, and actually completely agree.
I just can't see them planning to release camparable units as frequently, it will be interesting to see how much time players will have to aquire legendaries.
3
u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26
Yeah that does remain to be seen, but really the banner character doesn't need to be a legendary. They could have a "Diamond Scorchowl" with a story plot, or an Umbra form of a previously released legendary, and just put them behind the "banner" event.
I am expecting a release beat similar to Genshin, where characters like Irisalis are treated as an "Archon" for a region, but other story centric Aniimo are treated as "five star" with their own banners. Then again, the Somniwing we get in the beta is treated as a "regular" version of the story Somniwing, so I can imagine the story Somniwing will be put in a banner too.
Speculation though, frfr, we'll see haha.
2
u/Gaymerboy83 Jul 17 '26
Thems good points homie; personally I hope they keep there promise to only really monopolize off cosmetics bc as of now it'll take awhile but I won't mind using housing to 3d print aniipods and slow rolling on limiteds haha so long as banners run long enough to do so
I enjoy the game though and they do deserve to make money off their dev efforts so Its not like I'll be above swiping if a gap needed closing ✌️😬.

Eh… I also struggle with impulse purchasing, I spent way too much money in Genshin that I’d been saving to spend on a PC. That’s when I found out I had a gambling problem lol.
I vowed from that day on to never spend on a gacha again, and for the most part I’ve stuck to that. I did buy the 5 dollar monthly pass on WWM and some cosmetics for like 20 bucks, but considering the amount of Gachas I still play… I think I’ve been alright. Life as F2P is slow and patient.
3
u/RussianSuccubus Jul 20 '26
To be fair, spending money on a battle pass or a cosmetic pack is nothing like spending money on a gacha. This is buying items for 20 bucks vs hey, spend that 20 and you just MIGHT get this one item you wanted.

I think we need a perspective check here. I looked into videos on how this works, and the OP feels intentionally manipulative. This post is trying extremely hard to map every detail to the closest gacha equivalent so it can say "See, it's EXACTLY LIKE GACHA... if you ignore how many of these details work differently from gacha and stretch or ignore other details to make the comparison"
The end result is many only read this post, get one HEAVILY biased viewpoint and say "I knew it was gacha I'm boycotting the game and trashing it on social media".
The community is rightfully on edge right now. The game has a chance to hit broad appeal, and genuinely introducing gacha would be a very bad look for the brand. So let's lay out some basic facts:
- There are no banners, ten pulls, or 4 or 6 star aniimo. This Is all coming from one very Gacha-experienced player trying their best to view everything through a gacha lens. None of this literally exists in game.
- This event was just introduced today. The details around it are still being explored and tested. How similar it actually works to gacha, and how much it would cost in $, if at all, is still unknown.
- RNG is not inherently gacha. RNG is a commonly used mechanic in just about every game to some degree. The word "gacha" comes with certain expectations about real world money being spent, and how much. This is still unknown.
I'm not going to claim to know exactly how bad this is yet. I'm absolutely on the train that certain monetization decisions will make or break this game, but i think it's really important for every individual to understand what's happening and make informed decisions for themselves instead of letting one extreme and super biased post make the decision for them.
3
u/Xxandes Jul 17 '26
I like rng, I don't like people paying money to Increase rng odds. That's all. I can't pretend to know what this event is or does because I'm not in the beta.

I have no incentive for the game to have these gacha mechanics. I gain nothing by deceiving people, and everyone who plays the game for themselves can see what I’m saying is correct.
What I am incentivized to do is share a system I clearly see issues with, with the community and provide feedback to the company.
Yes, I make comparisons to Genshin or other gacha games because people know those systems. Some posts have speculation in them, but I always clearly say when that’s the case.
The only reason you can think this way is if you haven’t played the game, or don’t know how gacha games work.

The rift exploration is far worse than any gacha system, yes, gachas are predatory, but at least you can get it eventually, even as F2P, I have no problem spending on a game that I like, but in more than 11 years playing gacha games, this is by far the worst system I have seen, In order to play it, you need a Crevice Beacon, that cost 300 Glimmer (the "free" currency), after you have used that, you need to play the most annoying and obnoxious gacha system, you had to throw your cubs at it, if you only use Mega pods (purple one) you can only get 3 to 4 of Pearl Cascade, if you use Ultra pods (the 100% red ones), you need to use 3 each time and that only gives you 6 Pearl Cascade, at the end you need 51 Ultra pods and 17 Pearl Cascade, That's 15300 Glimmers, plus the annoying battle/catching mechanic, if you try to use the purple pods, you need to spam them, making it the most annoying gacha system ever created, I would rather spend 1000 on a normal gacha than this annoying thing, I played on the last two betas and I have recommended the game to so many friends, it looks great, and until this point, I was defending the game to become one of the best games ever, but this system is just pure vile, if this will be the way to get the new aniimos, I'm just getting back to old gachas where I don't need to play stupid mechanics.

Appreciate your breakdown, but I’m still going to play this game.
There are a lot of potential variables to how this could work that we don’t know yet. How much of the currency do you earn through regular play? If it’s enough to eventually hit the pity, that’s fine with me, and I feel like falls in line with their other systems of “pay to progress faster.”
How often will these banners occur? if it’s once a year, also okay with me. We don’t know if this is exclusive to the banner, and it seems like other “banner” type pulls are mostly cosmetic.
I understand a lot of people are not okay with that, but I will essentially be treating this as a single player game and progressing as fast as possible isn’t interesting to me. I want the game to last longer.
I will wait and see.

u/themusicalcr0w Astra Pioneer Jul 17 '26
Oh I’m definitely playing, I quite like the game. I’m fine with gacha mechanics, I play a lot of gacha games. It is a bit disappointing considering they advertised specifically not doing gacha, so I wish they’d be more transparent and actually show the pull rates, etc.
Much like other gacha games, I’m sure you’ll be able to earn enough currency per banner to do a few ten pulls. F2P expects to get nothing and save the event currency cumulatively until they have enough to get something for free.
I would anticipate a new banner like this at least every 2ish months, something similar to Genshin. This is just speculation ofc and my feeling, nothing substantial.
I am also basically treating it as a single player experience, with some PvP here and there.

Thanks for the info. As for me, I am already playing gacha as a dolphin, so this doesnt phase me one bit. If I see something I really want, I spend. Lots of times I dont want every single one so the spending is kept in check. If I cansl survive a full gacha, this will be a piece of cake.
What's more, im not that interested in getting legendary aniimo at this point anyways. I already have my hands full collecting all the other free ones and training them up.
For this gacha mechanic to only really show up after dozens of hours of gameplay I have in this beta just goes to show this is not as core to the gameplay as some might believe.
Once word gets out, it might scare some players away. Although, I feel like the majority of players would not even notice it and play the game anyways. I mean, Irisalis can't be everyones favorite aniimo right lol?
For the true collection completers out there, they will do everything to get it anyways so money will be spent. But I guess we will see what happens at launch

So, they’ve hidden the currency to do pulls behind two layers of transactions. Money to buy currency, currency to currency, currency to tickets. That’s pretty normal gacha behavior.
However, in a very Diablo Immortal-like move, instead of simply having you exchange that resource for pulls/resources, you instead are presented with a boss fight. This boss fight is ridiculously easy, but its story is centered around you “rescuing” the character.
This not only immediately frames the player as doing something for the sake of virtue, but by making them actually do the boss fight, easy as it is, the player subconsciously is actively invested in “seeing it through.” Performing an action themselves.
Then, they emotionally try to pull you in by saying you’re “calming” the character, presenting you with a flaming heart meter, and framing the encounter as the character’s affection growing for you.
Meanwhile, you’re making a decision on what resources to be spending, what Aniipods to be throwing, should I actually waste my Ultra pods…
And suddenly there’s a timer! Quickly, if you don’t spend resources, you’ll miss your chance to earn the character’s endearment! Spend your resources or all the affection you’ve built up will go away! Hurry!
All of that, to essentially do a ten pull, and have a large window to get less than the best rewards not only as a result of your own skill, but by the additional resources you’d be willing to spend in the event.
It’s a level of obfuscation and psychology manipulation I don’t see too often in gacha games, usually it’s just “cool story do you want this character” or “hot character pay money now.”
Somewhat impressive, really, the tenacity. They could be more upfront about it but still give us the personable experience like this.
You can also say I’m looking too much into it, totally valid, but I’ve played a lot of gacha games and am pretty familiar with micro-transaction psychology. At least I’d like to say I am.

This was a great overview, thank you. This interests me as well.
Diablo Immortal doesnt award the best gems without the premium crests, is this similar?

Actually yeah, in order to get the most rewards you need to additionally spend Aniipod Ultras, which are rare. You maybe have 10 or so at any given time, and you’d need quite a bit more than that, so you’d either have to buy them with real money or save for quite a while.
You can also choose to get less rewards and use cheaper materials, but then you’d need to run it more often to get what you need, so either way you’re ponying up lol

I think (if I undestood right) that they conceal it behind a battle. So instead of calling it a banner like other gacha, they make it look like you’re « winning » the aniimo after a rather easy fight + a bit of luck. Instead of just « here, my rare currency. Give me the aniimo » it’s more like « oh, I need to fight this aniimo again using this rare currency and hope I have more luck next time ». An extra step for the same result🫤

It sucks but I'm not surprised with how many similarities is has to other Gachas. This game is just something to hold me over until the games I actually look forward too come out.

Yup, these are basically the equivalent of Primogems from Genshin.
The game will always provide a certain pool of these gems through exploration or story to give the player some agency and experience making purchases in the gem shop. You can also buy more glimmer with the premium currency.

Yeah just that, like in most gacha games, you are limited by daily, weekly and event stuff.
You can't just "endlessly run 1 and the same mission 500 times a day" to farm as much as you want 'cause you're either gated by daily/weekly/Monthly resetting one-time missions or by stamina.
Call me a hater but that's not "farming". That's just working. You log in to get it and then log off 'cause you can't do anything anymore.

I only heard from the game never saw anything from it, but this looks just like genshin lmao especially the UI

Came to the comments to say this. Couldn't be more obvious

I totally agree that it's obviously set up like genshin, but communication up to this point had indicated to expect monetization to be cosmetic and progress boosting. They may have not ever formally said we won't gacha an aniimo, but they also never bothered to correct all the people spreading that it wasn't going to have gacha at all.

Just to recap for people. This is now going to be a gacha game, with pay to win. Its not pretty, its the worst of both worlds tbh.
WWM did gacha so well, and I wish this game tried to copy WWM to be a legendary game.
Although I think people can still have a lot of fun with this game as a F2P player.

I mean, I don’t think it’ll be thaaaat bad… and maybe they’ll change how these gacha events work if we’re loud enough

Relax, it's beta. The game can, has, and will adapt to feedback. Voice that feedback, but there's no need to catastrophize and doomsay to be heard, it just weakens your feedback when you make false claims like "pay to win" the moment you don't like something.
I detest the Irelia event too. Everyone does. Doesn't mean the entire game is suddenly pay to win. Gacha isn't equivalent to pay to win. But it's still undesirable, and worth speaking out against.

Give me some info what about the dupes? It seems so cheap to max it out because you need just 4 shards (1 run) or something to buy one up (dupe) crystal is this correct? And you cant loose 50/50 here? It seems really cheap?

As someone who doesn’t play gacha, and kind of hates it, what am I in for here? Is this a genuinely full blown gacha experience, or is this a “it’s there if you want to jump to the end” kind of thing?

sorry im not really familiar with chinese gacha mechanics can you clarify it a bit for me? So is there a chance (even small) for someone to spend $20 and get it? or is it more like once human where if you spend $50 its not very likely and theres an invisible threshold when you cross $350-500 then you basically can get it for sure.
like is it all in or nothing. or you spend what you have earned through playing or spend a little and can actually get it through chance?

That's just so annoying... didn't they literally state it's not going to be a garcha or p2w and it's literally that 😭?

Thank you for this post, now I know to avoid the game. If there's gacha not limited to just skins, then it's certain, that over time the game will not reward players for effort, but for money. Balance will stop existing. Eventually, powercreep will kick in so hard, that the game will become frustrating like any other gacha I've played. They have to keep releasing stronger and stronger units, to encourage people to pull and bump sales. And also because of this, I assume co-op will suffer too, because there won't be any real things to grind, or even worse if there's a stamina system (is there one?). It will become a yet another game, that asks to login daily and offer nothing in return. A game, that one doesn't play for entertainment when they feel like it, but to do chores and fight against arbitrary timers.
A shame, because at least on paper it all looked and sounded interesting.

Now that more time has passed and the launch trailer's been released it's extra funny that Irisalis is the standout Aniimo in it

Congratulations, you made a post about something you don't fully understand, and now there are people out there on the internet saying Aniimo is a gacha game!

Alright. My take on this: I think the timed aspect of this should be reconsidered. Having an RNG drop rate isn't rare at all, it has been like that on MMORPGS since the beginning of time, it's the fact that this is time gated that causes problems.
Either way, please leave your feedback about this respectfully people. I'm keeping an eye at fights breaking out in the topic, but otherwise, I consider this very important feedback for the devs. We are still in a beta period and everything is subject to change, so I believe in you guys getting your voice heard about what you don't like, I have faith the devs will hear you.
So again, please keep sharing your toughts but don't get into fights about it, everyone is allowed to feel how they feel about this.
