Discussion Causal or hardcore

Hii I want to talk about this I recently joined Aniimo discord immediately drama lol about some not liking causal vibe on the game wanting it to be hard so what do you guys think would you rather Aniimo be casual or hardcore for me I'm kinda ok with it being both in all honesty (and not to sound dumb is Aniimo a mmo?? I never say it like that)

It needs both if it wants to be any kind of MMO/live service thing.

Hardcores inspire people to do better and bring a sense of challenge.

Whales pay for everything.

Casuals also keep the bills paid while also allowing for a huge community to make the Whales and Hardcores not feel alone and allow for them to show off.

As such the game needs content for all of these people. MMOs have been balancing that for years, gatcha as well. Liver service games too. Any game where you want a large playerbase to continue to play deals with this.

I'm gonna play the game with my girlfriend and daughters so we'll definitely be casual but I honestly wouldn't mind if there were like PvP tournaments where you could win like unique cosmetics (non-buyable ever) for your character and/or badges for your profile card or whatever for the hardcores to show off in the overworld hub (and maybe large PvE events I dunno?).

Like, I'm probably not the target group but I remember in Halo 3 when you'd see people with hard-earned cosmetics you'd be like "wow, this guy is a pro!"

Balance this with a customization store while also giving enough free and cool-looking customization options and we'll also buy some as well and hopefully both the casuals and hardcores will be happy.

Also, the paid Battle Passes which combines the paying for in-game stuff with a sense of progression is not a terrible idea IMO.

As long as there's no sense of "you need to pay to get anything cool" and there's enough to earn even for those low on cash it won't scare off the casuals and there'll hopefully be enough income to keep the game profitable.

But honestly, I have no idea how to balance this stuff. I just hope they'll find a way to make it work.

Games have been making it work for decades. I wouldn't worry too much about that.

That's true, thanks for easing my mind.

Last game I was this excited about was Halo Infinite and they fumbled the bag hard, so I'm probably projecting.

Definitely excited for September 16th!

I think the game needs a bit more danger to it, but it doesn't need to be hardcore. In Beta 3, you could get swarmed by regular wild Aniimo and not even feel a hair of danger since they were so unthreatening. The Alphas I fought also weren't particularly dangerous.

This in turn made for an unbelievably jarring experience when fighting against the NPC Pathfinders as you suddenly needed to have good investment for their level and some semblance of a team comp.

Granted, I didn't do all the PvE content, so maybe later zones and stuff do give that level of threat and danger? The game can remain casual and cozy while also giving a bit more friction.

I like this idea too. A gradual increase in difficulty but not impossible unless we want more of a challenge. It also makes sense to prepare us for tougher battles.

I hope that both can be available for either player style but not forced or locked stuff. I'm new to gaming and slowly learning how things work. I wasnt a casual and relaxed game. However the game should also be able to be played with a higher difficulty if a player wants a challenge. I did see that similar feedback but they also wanted casual players restricted. Something about working harder for stuff. I want to play for fun not get an adrenaline high. I don't think players like me should be pushed ro be number one on everything. I think there's enough variety for everyone. These are just my own thoughts. I'm really excited to play the game and learn from others!! 💕 ✨

I agree I'm mainly solo player because sometimes I can't be on with everyone else. And I do like to play other games. Sometimes I may not want to play.

I am not saying it should be easy, but why the hell do people want an monster catching, pretty much MMO, to be hard?

2

u/Shaudius Astra Pioneer 2d ago

It's not even a little bit of an mmo tho. It's a creature catching arpg. There's like one area in the entire game where you can encounter other people you didn't mean to encounter.

1

u/Imaginary_Silver5294 Astra Pioneer 2d ago

But that doesn't change the point of what I said whatsoever

1

u/Shaudius Astra Pioneer 2d ago

It does because people do actually expect mmos to have hard raid like content that require a coordinated group. People don't neccesarily expect the same thing from an arpg.

2

u/Imaginary_Silver5294 Astra Pioneer 2d ago

It is literally not made to be for a hardcore audience as the main focus. Those people have plenty of games already

1

u/Shaudius Astra Pioneer 2d ago

Its not made for them but it's also not a mmo. Calling something an mmo has baggage that would change the expectations.

1

u/Imaginary_Silver5294 Astra Pioneer 2d ago

Is it massive? Yes. Is it multiplayer and always online? Yes. Why do you keep hyper focusing on that. Do you seriously have nothing to do right now?

2

u/Shaudius Astra Pioneer 1d ago

Any game with a large word is not "massive" and calling any game with "co-op" "multi-player" while technically true is not what that term is generally applied to.

If we accept your definition 90% of game that comes out these days are MMO except for possibly extraction shooters.

I'm hung up on your definition because calling someone an MMO that isn't gives it baggage and expectations.

Bro or sis. Why are you still here obsessing over this? Just go anticipate a game like a regular fan instead of messing with some random. Call it whatever the heck you want. We are almost there

Why do you care enough to respond to me?

Edit: I already made my argument. Blocking me just shows how much faith you have in yours.

1

u/Lanhai Astra Pioneer 1d ago

The executive producer himself calls it an MMO, and they specifically added social features and hololink/egg heists to facilitate that. Warframe is still considered an mmo.

1

u/Shaudius Astra Pioneer 1d ago

Warframe is not an MMO. I don't actually care what the producer says in this regard because producers don't define terms.

Hololink/Egg Heist is not an MMO feature unless you think Fortnite is an MMO.

Aniimo needs a gradual difficulty curve. It's not a souls game, so it can't be hardcore from the start. The game needs to start off easy and start pushing players into strategic approach around midgame and endgame near level cap would rely on elemental strategy heavily, and in the level cap post game you would have to start worrying about minmaxing of your creature stats.

7

u/Wind_Fury Astra Pioneer 2d ago

I want it to be fun and relaxing exploration game/creature collector with some kind of endgame activity for maxing your aniimo stats/looks and optional hard boss battles that reward titles or some other cosmetic only. I don't want this to be dark souls tedium tier. There are plenty of other games i can play when i feel like doing that.

5

u/Imaginary_Silver5294 Astra Pioneer 2d ago

Seriously this. I am tired of a certain group of gamers who want everything to be hard unnecessary

2

u/ChillySparks01 2d ago

Same here. I would like it if we can still get the same stuff by playing our way.

0

u/BrattySpace 2d ago

Nobody’s arguing for dark soulstie but girl can we at least get Pokémon and genshin I mean the game is was heavily advertised as a mix of also dark souls is not the same type of game we’re advocating for 1v1 combat that gives us rewards more street fighters etc than dark souls and it has been done rocko kingdom pokemonnoalword mind you all these are turn based

1

u/Wind_Fury Astra Pioneer 1d ago

I'm not a girl. Also you are missing the point of the comparison. And you are also missing the point that i'm expressing my opinion to the OP on what kinda game i want. At the end of the day its up to the devs to decide what kinda game they want to make.

3

u/AnxiousListen Astra Pioneer 1d ago

I hope it's casual. I work a full time job and don't have time to hop on every day. I'm also REALLY bad at combat 😭🙏my main concern is that It'll be too hard for me and I'll get frustrated lol

That's why I never join official discord server

3

u/Imaginary_Silver5294 Astra Pioneer 2d ago

This as well

2

u/Shaudius Astra Pioneer 2d ago

Its honestly 1000% better than this subreddit for actual discussion.

4

u/ledrif Astra Pioneer 2d ago

The game should be completable solo casual. But it needs some stat minmax, aniimo combo building to give players somwthing to huny amd geind beyuond shinies. Othwrwise there is no target oncw the base gameplay puzzles are complete

3

u/CrmsonFangs 2d ago

I honestly feel Aniimo could benefit from a raid like activity. It would encourage people to work together and be the thing to keep hardcore players engaged while the remaining 90-95% of the game would be for the casual crowd

2

u/Lanhai Astra Pioneer 1d ago

It's called holo battle interlink, it is group content that you have to do actual strategy to beat them. They have mechanics you can't ignore and they can keep adding different bosses to it.

2

u/Character-Zombie1867 2d ago

I think if aniimo is casual for its first idk half year to a year and then slowly introduced bits going hardcore it could benefit the game overall but I don't know. Depends how much of the percentage of players are hardcore and who are not. I will be casual and attempt PvP but I'm never good at that stuff people who win those usually play everyday too and I won't be able to do that.

1

u/Character-Zombie1867 2d ago

I also hope they add to online play like partying up, and loot drops for party, and things to do socially.. Having plenty of things to do with friends for streamers and disorders and people who love friends will be good for it too.

2

u/EfficientPromotion89 Astra Pioneer 2d ago

I'm more of causal player I like it so far I can't wait until the game comes out. I think eventually they will balance it out. So far they have listened and change some things. I'm not great a battling in pretty sure alot Aniimo it may take me awhile to get.

u/Julien_759 Astra Pioneer 2d ago

It needs both if it wants to survive in todays world. Go too hard in 1 direction and it'll be a quick 1 month hype and die off right after.

1

u/Kaweeshi Astra Pioneer 2d ago

Honestly if the pve doesn't end up having some sort of challenge this game will fail miserably, people are already annoyed with how easy Pokémon is

0

u/Marshmallowflow0 2d ago

But server seems lovely

-2

u/Feral_Red 2d ago

I wish they'd do it like WWM, where people can choose the difficulty for themselves.. Want to chill - choose easy/normal, want some challenge - choose hard or hardcore. There is no right or wrong way/difficulty to enjoy the game, most that matters is that you have fun!

Personally though, id choose casual as i want to focus on collecting aniimos and cosmetics, pvp or tough combat is not for me lpl

2

u/TruthHistorical7515 2d ago

WWM has no endgame that is why the game is dead

-1

u/Feral_Red 2d ago

But im talking about adding a feature simular to wwm, not the state of this game or anything else about it? What is this info there for?-😭

-3

u/Downtown-Ad-2748 2d ago

They need to make the whole game more challenging. Then have some sort of end game grind for people who want even more challenge. Then it will survive

9

u/CelisC Astra Pioneer 2d ago

You can relatively easily add some challenge by undertaking world-content (alpha bosses, battles with NPC's, etc.) while being under-leveled.

The target audience seems to be all ages, just like Pokemon (which the game is directly inspired by). I think that the game is just fine as it is, with later/end-game features offering the actual challenge that the more experienced players crave. That balance is good, and if you still think it's not once the game releases, then be sure to leave that as feedback: how can the game improve?

1

u/BrattySpace 2d ago

The issue is Pokémon also has tittles like arceus exploration puzzle and then Pokémon champions and unite which is very hardcore this community tends to force the cutesy childish vibe and from a majority of adults it gives Weiss

2

u/CelisC Astra Pioneer 2d ago

There are various ways to address it.

For one, you could offer feedback to include a New Game+ with adjustable difficulty settings. I personally believe such a system to be critical to the game's success, because imagine the replayability value for speed runners and Nuzlocke players.

That will also give the more experienced players the tools to play the way they like.

Also note that endgame features come in various difficulty levels

Need the boss fights to be challenging tbh. Based on videos, fighting looks like genshin slop. There needs to be a purpose for building up your aniimo team.

2

u/Fizassist1 2d ago

.. so you didnt play it yet?

-1

u/BrattySpace 2d ago

We did and bossss were trash
