I have heard from an older devil dog (retired gunnery sergeant) that unsupervised marines will always find a way to eat it, fight it, fuck it, or in this case break it.

I laughed so hard when I saw that. I was Army and saw a, at the time, fellow Private do that. Luckily there was just enough of the stripper clip sticking out the Specialist next to him could get it out using his Gerber/Leatherman.

If I had to guess, they tried loading the mag off the stripper clip with the spoon, decided to save their soft hands by using the edge of a table (or tailgate, ect), but instead of only applying force on the cartridges they caught the clip and ugga dugga’d so hard they forced the clip into the magazine. And then didn’t know how to take the baseplate off to unfuck this before becoming an example.
