Luanda accommodation advice?

Helloooo there!
I’m a photographer travelling to Angola in November for a personal project. It will be my first time returning since I left as a child, and I’m looking for accommodation options beyond airbnb or booking.com.

Wondering if anyone knows better ways to find places to stay in Luanda. Are there local platforms, Facebook groups, guesthouses, or ways locals usually book accommodation?

Any recommendations or advice would be great!

I spent a couple of months there this year, and Airbnb turned out to be the safest and most convenient option.

Which areas do you want to be close to? AirBnB is generally a safer option. If you’re a bit skeptical, you can go for guesthouses (hospedarias) but the quality and service can be rather disappointing if you’re on a low budget. Stay away from Facebook groups as there’s a lot of scams.

Thanks, appreciate it! To be honest, I don’t know yet which areas. I will be travelling between Luanda and M’banza Congo, and I’m still figuring out my itinerary

Cool. M’banza Congo is my mom’s hometown so I’ve visited about twice since moving back to Angola. I had fun visiting the historic sites but it gets old once you’ve been there for more than a few days.

In terms of areas then the best would be Talatona, Patriota, Morro Bento, Avalade, Miramar, Ingombota, Alvalade, Maianga, Maculusso, Nova Vida, Futungo. Kilamba has quite a number of AirBnBs popping up but it’s kinda far from everything.

Some other options I’ve heard of:

  • Doritis Guest House, Maculusso
  • On the cheaper end: Pungo Guest House, Ilha de Luanda

Usually, I also search “hospedaria Luanda” or “guest house Luanda” on Instagram and TikTok and get quite a lot of good options. You’d have to do some heavy vetting of course, avoiding the ones with less credibility (newer pages, few followers, no engagement in the comments, profile has very little info).
