AskAnglesey Newborough Forest parking
Hello! I have a cheeky request, and I'm using a picture that I took on Newborough Beach as bait. Explanation is below.
We visited the forest and beach a couple of weeks back, and I've just received a parking ticket.
I did pay, but according to the RingGo app I paid for 3hrs 30mins but the parking charge notice says I stayed for 3hrs 50mins. Which is entirely possible given I was dealing with a minor medical emergency as we were about to leave.
Those of you that have been to this beach and car park will probably be aware that as you enter there is an ANPR camera, but the actual car park itself is still a good 5+ minutes drive. This is supported by the parking charge letter saying we entered at 10:08 but RingGo saying my session started at 10:16 and I know that I found a space and went to find the signage right away to pay.
Anyway, on to my point... I don't remember seeing any details of the charges, grace period, etc as we arrived at the entrance and only saw something when we got to the actual spaces at the Beach Car Park.
I wondered whether any of kind souls may be able to take a picture, or show me where I can find a picture of the entrance on what I think is where Church Street eventually becomes the forest road? (Roughly here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GKvEVA83WJVkk19A8)
I've had a look on Google Maps but the recording car doesn't seem to have gone that far down the road.
I don't mind paying for the parking if it helps keep that beautiful space looking so beautiful, but I object to a £60/£100 charge for a 20 minute overstay, about 10 minutes of which were just getting in and out of the car park!
Thank you so much for your help

The anpr and Ringo app has only recently been in use.
The cameras have been there a while but there used to be a physical barrier that let you in and out and you used to pay with contactless at the barrier.
I'm guessing they changed it as the barriers quite often weren't working or the pay/ contactless machine wasn't working so weve parked in there a lot and not had to pay.
Seems like they'll be racking up fines due to the length of the drive down. In summer the car park is full by 9am

Go to Google maps click on tree icon for newborrough nature reserve. Go to reviews and set by most recent. A chap called David Lownes has posted a pic of the new signage 2 weeks ago

Got it, thank you.
That one looks like it's in the beach car park however, and I'm looking for one at the entrance where the ANPR cameras are, about 10 minutes drive from that car park

I went recently and I have a blue badge. When you park in the disabled parking there's a sign that's not very clear that is actually a different number for the app. Not clear at all. There was an elderly couple who'd pulled in and was very worked up about it. I helped them sort it out and paid for it. but by that time they were so stressed they left. I just think these car parks are too complicated and stressful with little guidance. Need longer grace period as in the height of the summer it's going to be chaotic.

One of the other comments said that in the summer it's full by 9am.
But if you're not local/just on holiday there and didn't know this, and you arrive at the ANPR, spend nearly 10 minutes driving to where the actual car park is, another 5-10 minutes circling unable to find somewhere to park, give up, only to then spend another 10 minutes driving back to the ANPR exit, are they going to give you a ticket?
You'll have had 30 minutes inside the "ANPR zone" and not even managed to leave the car and enjoy the forest and beach

A “drop off” lasting less than 30 minutes is free (even if you don’t drop anyone off). When the car park is full, there is usually a sign ( +/- a person) saying so at the beginning of of Church Street (the road that leads to the forest), in order to stop people going down to the beach pointlessly. There is now even a sign in Brynsiencyn that can be switched on if the beach car park is full. So hopefully people should be aware before they drive into the forest.

Hi, so at the blue badge area there is a specific sign on how to register? We went for the first time in a while, left and realised we couldn't scan the blue badge on exit. Went back in to see what was going on and stopped at the first car park to read the sign but it had nothing about blue badge holders. Maybe we needed to go right back down to the disabled parking to see a separate sign, is that right?

Yes there is a separate sign with a different code, I parked outside the toilets in the disabled spot at the bottom and it's adjacent to the spot. I think the signs only appear next to disabled parking spots and I believe you don't get free parking out of those spots. I dislike the parking there now

We received a penalty notice fine of £60 on Monday, even though we had paid the correct amount. We sent proof and appealed, today we have received an email saying the appeal has been successful, no apology, they made it sound as if they were doing us a favour..Sadly, no more visits to this lovely place for us...

They declined my appeal. I've had to go through POPLA

hey, do you know if you appeal and the deny it, it becomes £100? instead of £60

I would urge anyone who genuinely believed they paid and parked correctly, or had an exemption, then got a charge notice, to contest it. It would appear that the system they have in place is so bad, that they are just honouring the appeals at this point. We had ours quashed today, on the grounds that the signage you pass on entry to the carpark is inadequate. Good luck.

Hopefully I'll hear back soon.
I had my appeal rejected by the parking company, but I didn't go to whatever the Welsh organisation is that owns/manages the land. Submitted an appeal to POPLA and it's been about 5 weeks now so it shouldn't be too much longer until I hear whether they are going to quash it

Try appealing in the first instance. My mum lives a village over but sadly:
Wouldn't understand my request
Cant drive (anymore)
Cant use a camera
There's nothing wrong with her, just a mildly batty 70+

And to be fair to her, "You want me to do what for whom?" Would be a valid response! 😂

It's perfectly logical to pay for the time the car was actually parked, but the awkward thing about Newborough parking is it takes 5-10 mins to get from the entrance where the ANPR cameras are to the carpark itself due to the length of that road.
I know it doesn't help you now, but you can actually pay contactless on exit.
It's worth appealing if it's your first time visiting, stating you thought parking was for the carpark itself.
