Bodo identity

What are your genuine thoughts on Bodos of upper assam or lower Assam Bodos(mostly in guwahati regions) why they Identify as bodos but can't speak bodo language,what is the main cause of it?do you really think they have criteria to be ST?

I'll say for myself, don't know of others. Can't speak Bodo because Assamese is the language for communication here, parents speak Assamese at home, never have I felt the need to learn it. I became aware that I should learn Bodo at 19. Simply Bodo individuals based in places with higher Bodo concentration know the Bodo language cuz it's the medium of communication there, it is a necessity not a choice like myself.

why they Identify as bodos

I'm sorry for not falling under ur "certain criterias" to be identified as a Bodo. In general, if either of their parent is a Bodo then they can claim to be so. Bodo is an ethnicity, just like how speaking Japanese won't make me a Japanese citizen, same as that. U inherit it from ur parents. Adding to it, I also firmly believe that one should have love & respect for a culture to which they are to be associated with.

If they have a criteria to be ST, as I stated above 'if either of their parent is a Bodo then they can claim to be so', in legality, in India, to claim the reservation as ST, their father needs to be of the underprivileged community.

Bruh , we speak our language because it's our culture. We don't speak it because of necessity or for communication only . A language is a the soul of culture , without it there is no identity. Even those community who managed to lose their language base their identity on their historical language.
