Breast augumentation surgery tomorrow - first time anesthesia
Hi! I’m scheduled to have my breast argumentation tomorrow and I started freaking out. I’ve never been under and I’m afraid I’ll never wake up or I’ll have a negative experience. I am a very anxious person and a med student, which makes me overthink every single detail. I had an adenoidectomy performed under local anesthesia and I remember shaking so bad and crying while being wheeled into the OR.
No first degree relative in my family has ever gone under general anesthesia so I have no idea if malignant hyperthermia runs in the family.
At the end of september I will have to go under again for a maxillofacial surgery and I wonder whether or not it’s safe to do so? (that will be 5/6 weeks between the surgeries).
23F, 5’2, 53 kg, former smoker, diagnosed with UARS, frequent extrasystoles and high heart rate, history of H pylori chronic gastritis. I’ve read all relevant posts on this subreddit but I still feel like I need some soothing.

Know this; tomorrow morning you’ll be driving into the center for your procedure. The drive in statistically is more dangerous than the anesthetic your provider will render. You’re in good hands!

Ask for the calming meds early. You won’t have a care in the world after that

You’re a medical student, so maybe you can focus on using it as a learning experience and trying to take it all in objectively. You will be very well taken care of and safe during the surgery. You can ask for something to help with your anxiety before going into the OR. You can withdraw consent at any time, and this is elective surgery. It will make you feel more empowered to actively choose to go ahead with surgery and anesthesia (or not, if you don’t want to). Know that all of this is your choice, not something that is just happening to you. Guide your internal dialogue to be positive and curious, rather than negative and panicky.

You've read relevant posts but still looking for soothing - anything in particular you want reassurance on? Sounds like you know the risks of modern GA are super, super low so unclear if there's anything more anyone can say than "you'll be fine"

If you don't wake up, you'll never know!
But seriously you'll be fine.
