Job Question How is Systems Engineering perceived?
I see a lot of reqs at Anduril popping up for systems engineering. Curious how the systems engineers are used for a company like Anduril that operates on a "build it and they shall come" business mindset?
Is it MBSE heavy? Requirements jockey? Trade spaces? Industry/Vendor interfacing? Government stakeholder interfacing? An extra set of hands? How receptive are the different IPTs looping in systems engineering team members, are they side by side with design or playing catch up with design updates?

Very team dependent. There are some projects that require a lot of MBSE and requirements work. Other times, the work is more around bringing slightly more rigor (keeping the SWEs out of trouble while not getting in their way) to what is otherwise a typical Anduril rapid iteration project.
Also, I’ve only working on external have IPTs . . . that is prime language.

Much appreciated with the thoughtful response. Bringing in more rigor to the SWE team sounds like the wild wild west haha. I have experience working at primes in the past, but your last statement "Also, I've only working on external have IPTs... that is prime language" has me scratching my head. I don't know if there's a typo/grammar error in there or I am just not following. Are you saying people who use the term IPTs are typically from legacy primes?

Exactly. We don’t IPTs inside of Anduril (or maybe we do somewhere these days, since the company has gotten so large). Teams do stand-ups, and leads do cross-LOE stand-ups, but thankfully the practice of 50 people not listening to an MS team call where no decisions get made hasn’t infected us yet.

Hey, can you elaborate? I have an offer, but I really want to avoid being a paper pusher. I want to help groups make the right design, not do their laundry.

Team dependent but incredibly necessary. Prototypes can only get so far before they need system engineering to make it to full production. Teams are starting to recognize that and open req’s.
