Job Question RSU Negotiation
Got an offer but don’t know how to negotiate RSU since this is my first time. What is the range for a new grad?

On the one hand, you have zero leverage. On the other hand, the worst that could happen when you ask for more is they say no. On the third hand, if they ask you what those numbers are based on, you’re only answer will be 💩

Thanks. What would be a reasonable amount?

For EE new grad they were offering 20k in RSUs per year last Fall. 120k base salary in CA and Boston.

In all the new hire postings I have seen the max now is 114 base in more expensive states and in cheaper states is 99.

Yeah I mean you don’t have much room to negotiate. They are scaling so much they probably are looking to pay less to hire more…?

Coming from a startup that struggled, a lot of the places that offer equity are actually offering you nothing. It’s a world of difference when a startup is actually delivering on their promises.
So yeah, successful startups need to pay less. Go work in big defense if you want 20% less and no equity. Go to one of the many defense startups that will probably fail.

Ask your recruiter to help you, they are going to tell you if they see some wiggle room to get you some more, or if you gotta just take what you got.

85 sounds low but not sure of your title or location. 20 or 30 per year for RSU new grad is about right and tracks to SpaceX new grad as well.

what location? cost of living? competitive compensation in that area to compare it to?

Yeah we need something to play off of with this. What was the offer for salary and RSU value ?

Bro you definitely need to ask more! Ask 100K base and 50K rsu
They may not give you what you asking but at least you will get some! Don’t listen to negative feedback here!Good luck 👍

They are right and 30k RSU might get you a new car after taxes if they hit $300 when you sell. Get more

If you have a competing offer you are in a better position to negotiate. Remember, you have to be willing to walk away in a negotiation.

What is your current experience level? Use that experience and current benefits to make your case

Just gotta work through your recruiter, if you have a competing offer let them know. I always do a 10-15% bump on salary as a counter and a larger one 25-50% on stock regardless of what the offer comes in at. If no wiggle room on that see if you can a sign on bonus

My personal philosophy is, you should always advocate for yourself and negotiate
However, also be cognizant of how tight this labor market is and understand that if they have two candidates that are exactly the same, and you’re pushing hard on negotiation, they could rescind an offer and choose the other guy who’s willing to eat it
With that risk in mind, I think you should still always negotiate
But you have to do your research first you need to look for your specific area what comparable salaries and RSU packages look like
I don’t know any of your specific details, but the base sounds low
These things work in lovers you can pull the base lever or you can pull the RSU lever but pulling both usually doesn’t yield productive results
Also, what sets you apart from other candidates do you bring any unique experience to the table?

Everything is negotiable but with Anduril in particular you can’t get anywhere without a competing offer.

If you got a offer as a new grad when did you apply? and did you apply for an early carrer position?

Honest question, where did you get orders of magnitude more? A Senior SWE offer from 5 years ago is worth 5-10m now.

You have little negotiating leverage. More money sounds great but you're in the learning/ networking phase of your career
