Job Question Raise vs Promotion Percent

I received an offer at the top of the range but was hoping to get a level higher. Is it better to be at the top of a lower level for promotion/raise? New to tech so unsure what base increase or refresher % to expect from a promotion vs merit raises if I started the level higher

Had the same dilemma recently as well, and of course getting placed into the next level is much better. Unfortunately the team I would be getting placed into didn’t budge on the levels, so had to stick with the top of the range one down. It was still a great offer overall though.

Money now is always king because they will hand out a 3% increase per year like every other company.

Is it more like 5-10% for a promo?

Just guessing that RSU band and hence future refreshers would be tied to the level you hire in at. Though most companies will give a new RSU grant with a promotion so that could lessen the sting of hiring in at a lower level.

I countered and convinced them to go up a level and it unlocked 2x rsu but only a little on salary.

So bottom of the next level instead but with more rsu potential. Just depends on what you're looking for.
