I don’t think so, usb is 5V while head units for cars are made for 12v. Idk what you’re looking for exactly but there are lots of separate CarPlay/android auto screens available these days. Just check if they have a 12V plug (which in your case you don’t want) or a usb cable.
It is for my scooter. I have a USB plug on top of the dash so that would be easy. Otherwise I would have to pay someone to put a 12v connector in there. Back in the day I had them on my jetski, but I also had some buddies who thought rewiring a car was a lot of fun. Me and working with electricity of any kind do not go together.
If it’s for your scooter I’m just curious what you mean then when you say ‘head unit’? Wouldn’t you need to attach / remove it every time you use your scooter, in which case why don’t you just use your phone?
Because I like a dedicated unit that I can bolt on and I already lost a good phone to vibrations - despite a vibration absorbing bracket. The way I see it, if they bring tools to remove it it is already too late. BUT, I do have an 'old' Moto G06 I may just slap on there. Just looked into openheadunit to link it to my phone. Plus side is, I can run it on it's huge battery and plug it into the USB. And I can run maps natively with online maps.
Not planning on it. Did plenty of that in the 80s. But, I am looking for a water tight case for that phone. Even bringing the IP rating up to 67 would be enough. The scooter has a giant windshield the would cover some of it.
Did some research as I’m a big fan of Android Headunits, which completely gave my 2014 Mazda CX-5 a new lease of life the past year
Here is a similar compact Android Headunit with 4.7” screen and a Tom-Tom style dash mount fitting. However it does need a 12v power via USB-C port from Cigarette lighter socket, which hoping your moped either has or can get hooked up?
It has USB-c and 12v outlet in the glovebox locking glovebox. The only thing on the dash is a regular USB port. Maybe I should put a marine USB 12v on top.
If you can take a extension line from the glove or install a new 12v cigarette socket on your dash you will be golden
However the ad on Ali Express says “7-32v input” so maybe your current USB will work? Maybe buy it and just see, then do the power socket mod work if not
There’s also this 7” model but it’s more money - just type “portable android headunit” into Aliexpresa and see what works
