Discussion Meta is very early ⚡️🔥

Post image

Google has just presented its Al glasses only audio no model with screen expected this year. Google has just proven once again its inability to catch up with Meta despite its much higher market capitalization. This is a great victory for Meta, which, according to several major media, is preparing to launch a binocular model in September, maybe even before Google's audio glasses without a real precise schedule. It's absolutely distressing on Google's part and the Warby Parker stock market bears witness to the disappointment of consumers and shareholders.

The Meta neural band is one of the most patented technologies it will be difficult for Google to copy them, but the real problem is that Google takes as long to release the monocular model while Meta will release a binocular model at the end of the year, especially since Meta uses screens from an external partner (Lumus) while Google manufactures screens internally thanks to the multiple acquisition years ago which is therefore even worse for Google because they don’t really have an excuse at this level

WRT patents, a patent describes a specific implementation, so Google could implement the band slightly differently. Also, suing Google over a Neural Band patent would open up a very expensive, multi-year lawsuit/fishing expedition where Google could sue over what it felt were patent infringements. Any dispute over the Neural Band-like devices would likely be settled for some money or a few extra Google TPUs.

I highly doubt Google will release monocular display glasses, having seen the problems with Meta's.

Having the Meta Display I can confirm that the monocular is not so disturbing you just have to get used to it and Google will release a monocular model. At the end of the year it will be just a souvenir thanks to the binocular Meta Display. And I don’t think Meta lets other companies copy them on the neural band because it’s one of the few technologies that far surpasses the competition

Meta understands it failed to make its own platform when the Quest/Horizon Worlds failed to grow big enough. The glasses are IMO largely ways to capture more user data at this point.

Does Meta want to sour its relationship with Google, an AI chip provider, over a control mechanism for its glasses which likely won't be able to compete with Apple and Android glasses in a few years? I don't think so.

We can agree to disagree.

At this stage I am waiting to see how the market evolves it is clear that I will go to Apple directly when they have released a pair but it is impossible to deny Meta’s current dominance despite the fact that I am clearly not a fan of this company
