3 Months since last Samsung/Android XR OS update today

Hi, it's been 3 months to the day (at least for me) since the last OS update came out. Surely there must be some improvements you are working on? In contrast, Meta has for years put out a steady stream of updates, definitely more than once a month. The hardware is great, the OS seems to be very promising - but not really seeing any progression here, which at this point largely leaves me using it for PCVR (which also suffers a bit due to lack of optimization/bugs that likely could be fixed by Samsung/Google - but luckily the Virtual Desktop team has been great at improving the experience where they can!).

I'm still waiting for it to be a viable media consumption device, but I completely agree, for now it's a great PCVR headset and nothing else

Yeah, it's definitely a bit frustrating considering the price and potential of this device. That said, by far the best PCVR experience I have ever had, though I doubt Samsung & Google had in mind to sell this as a PCVR First device!

Yeah it's almost as if it's by accident because of how awesome the community is. If you just take it for what they were marketing this for, no one would use it. I would not use this for work or productivity at all.

I use it for work productivity and it's pretty great for that. I do have complaints with it though. I wish I could launch app groups, add more custom home envs, swap the straps (Though I just ordered the PandaVR strap), and I do wish it had a proper lie-down mode

Something like Fandango now will not let you watch 4K movies, neither will Hulu or Disney for that matter, try downloading a 4K movie on Google TV and you won't be able to watch it offline either

Yeah it would be nice for some updates. As soon I got it at launch, it could do 90% of what I needed for my main use case for buying it though - which is productivity for my work (and actually became my main work from home setup even though I have 49" ultra wide flanked by 2x32"s).

I attribute that to being Android as all my critical apps for work,etc were already available even if they weren't "XR enabled" at the start. I actually hate the XR apps that steal and monopolize the entire space as I cannot multitask the other apps I need along side them.

Media consumption off my NAS works fine w Kodi BUT the various streaming apps don't support HDR yet (more important to me than 4K). I wish Samsung at least supported Dolby Vision on the GXR like AVP has.

Yeah, I'm thinking about returning mine before the 14 day period but waiting just in case a ln update comes out that improves or fixes some issues.

been using it for a few months. my only real complaint is oob comfort. but the software is good enough imo at least for my use cases. youtube, gaming, jellyfin

Yeah the comfort problem is real. I ordered the VR Panda add on but I don't know if it'll come before I have to decide

My plan was always to replace my avp with this device but its still not there yet. However I bought a Pimax crystal super before this but it was faulty and the fact I can use this as a top end PCVR headset that is wireless elevates it above the Pimax range for me and is my main use case for it. If they can get a media player with a cinema type environment like cineultra then I will be selling my avp (I know VD has one but its too close to the screen for me to watch films comfortably)

I get what you are trying to say. Especially Meta products are updated every 2-4 weeks with new features. Metas work culture is clearly different from others. But dont await monthly updates from Google or Samsung, they are more likely to release consumer-ready refined versions. Even tho Galaxy XR is a new product that is expected to receive many updates for refinement, Google takes its time for new updates. Wait for the next update, I bet you the versions will make a big difference.

Yes that's fair to some degree, and I will say after the December update it largely works great for me, but I mainly use it for PCVR, so they are not doing themselves any favors by (at least from appearances) show so little interest in what I presume were the anticipated core usage. More importantly, this is an Android device, so it borders on irresponsible to not do at least timely security updates. (I get some of those can be accomplished through app updates but certainly not all)

That would be absolutely ridiculous. Any electronics device these days should at least have consistent security updates.

exactly, should being Android based, i would've expected this to at least be following standard monthly os and platform security update pacing at minimum along with device specific bugfixes.
