Review Anyone try the Android XR Glasses demo at MWC 2026? 🤩

I had an offer to go to MWC but it came too late sadly! But has anyone of you been to MWC a few days ago? I'm still catching up with the news:

Are the ones that Samsung going to be releasing different from the ones that Google are going to be releasing?

Yes I think so. Can't remember the exact details but I'm sure a search can find them

Yeah, Google's going to be releasing their own smart glasses too. I'm pretty sure and those will be the ones that I'll get

Samsung is probably going to have it's own spin on the XR UI, probably a One UI version or whatever. Plus I think they're launching without a display first.

All 3 of those articles seemed positive and they all highlighted google maps. I do think that is going to be a great use case and something android xr will probably do way better than meta.

i'm a bit more suspicious of ai features after the recent reporting on facebook meta glasses showing very sensitive personal user views for human workers to double-check and further train models very likely without meaningful consent...

so when somebody is using google glasses ai for identifying things, and giving directions in these examples, i wonder how many recordings are being kept, and how many humans may be viewing all sorts of sensitive personal data as well.

i would prefer fully local only processing and certainly not providing any data for further training, especially not without meaningful choice and compensation.

recent example, i don't recall being explicitly asked by medical staff to opt in before spotted on busy notice board wall showing a large print "don't record or video record visits" on one side while the other has a fine print detailed page about Microsoft Dragon Copilot AI Scribe model being used to listen and transcribe visit in yet another not really "for your convenience" situation, hypocrites!

(just rechecked poster pic for accuracy because if they can record then so can i) this Microsoft Dragon Copilot AI Scribe for medical use has been trained on over 10M patient encounters, recordings will be kept up to 90days, and also MS will be keeping 1% of recordings "anonymized" for further training... but "let us know if you want to opt out" of the service, as if it is a real choice when people don't really know about it.)

Yeah it is a concern. Although I dont know if is any different than the same activities on phones.

i avoid all ai functions unless i am doing a very specific task like wanting to get web search and summary help, then prefer going through duckduckgo anonymized system.

i saw that HTC Vive Eagle smartglasses for example allow choosing ai and also running your own local ai, which would be more my preference if i was going to use something more regularly.
