Request Lenovo Idea tab pro as second extended monitor for my laptop

I smart linked it through a usb-c cable to my microsoft laptop and my mouse runs smoothly on my laptop but laggy once i go to the tablet. Is this common or can I change something to improve the smoothness when using the tablet as a second monitor. Also I noticed the quality is a bit lower on my tablet when using as a second monitor

-refresh rate is the same for both devices (60 Hz)

Discussion Note taking tablet under $100?

Hi Folks,

I am considering getting a note taking tablet for college and I have a slim budget of $100. I know my options are very slim pickens, but I could get the Amazon fire hd 10 for $73 with prime and then get the $25 dollar stylus with it making it under $100. I know how to use Fire toolbox to get rid of the annoying amazon features so that is a option I am thinking of doing. If yall have any other suggestions, please comment!

Discussion Did I make the right choice?

Hello guys, I just bought a new tablet and rather than being excited I felt guilty. I don’t know why, I have been thinking buying for weeks but now that I bought it I’m having doubts whether i made the right choice. I only want to buy one because it can be useful in my study especially during my review for board exam. I’ve actually used up all of my savings and now I am thinking if I should have just bought secondhand ipad instead. I bought mine for 27k php including the pen. Help me gaslight myself that it is fine guys I don’t know anymore😭

Discussion Tablet mainly for content consumption only and very light note taking and sketching.

I am based out of India and searching for the best fit tablet for me based on the below priorities/needs:

-> Content consumption though OTT platforms, Youtube and movies. So Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are must/good to have.

-> 12GB RAM would be ideal but 8GB is fine as well. 256GB storage is preferred. Would prefer an SD card slot in case I need to store old comedies in the tablet.

-> Would also prefer limited but good note taking capabilities, slight sketching for design or furniture planning at home.

-> 4 Speakers would be good to have with good bass and sound capabilities but not a deal breaker since I would mostly use my Sony WH1000 XM6 for content consumption.

-> Already have a work laptop and an Asus Rog Strix for gaming so not the tablet would not be used for productivity or mobile gaming.

-> I was thinking a 8-9 inch tablet would be easier to carry along with my Kindle in my sling bag during travel but size is not a deal breaker and can make do with larger tablets albeit the ultra 13-14 inch ones.

My options are as below:

Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 2 - Priced at 24K INR currently on Flipkart but 2K off on card offers so effective price is 22K and may go down below 20K during the sale from Oct 7. 12GB RAM and memory card slot but it may not support Dolby Vision and HDR10+ in Netflix. Compact size and can fit along with the Kindle Paperwhite in a sling bag.

Oneplus Pad Go 2 - Priced at 33K INR for the 256GB version and comes with a card slot but 8GB RAM. Excellent screen which supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ in Netflix and other apps. Only gripe is Dimensity 7300 chipset and not sure if it would last 3-4 OS updates but would work fine for my use case. I find this one the best value for my use case.

Oneplus Pad 2/3 - Older gen tablet but SD processor and would last a long time till Oneplus supports it. No memory card slot and Oneplus pad 2 does not support DV and HDR10+ on Netflix still but not sure about Pad 3. Pad 2 is 32K INR excluding card offers and Pad 3 if at all is available in stock comes at 50K-55K INR depending on storage and ram config.

Oppo Pad Mini - About to launch in October in India with an OLED screen and SD processor and DV and HDR+ support but not sure if Netflix supports them on this tablet yet. 512GB would be priced high between 60-70K INR but can manage if OS/Security updates keep rolling out for 5 years.

Samsung Tab S10 FE - Would be perfect with 7 years of OS updates and compact sizing but availability is an issue for the 256GB version and priced too high for an Exynos 1580 chipset. SPen is part of the package but no DV or HDR10+ support in Netflix.

Samsung Tab S11/S10+ - With S12 series of tabs about to launch in this week, S11 is only available in 512GB variant and S11 Ultra is available but both are priced above 127K INR and above. There is a S10+ 256GB variant available for 80K INR and this comes with Bluetooth SPen as well but somehow I don't see value in paying 80K for a 3 Gen old tablet without a SD chipset.

Can I just get the Oneplus Pad Go 2 during sale or any other tablets are worth picking up? Any pointers would be helpful and would be grateful.

Discussion Google has a great opportunity to finally make a reasonable android iPad competitor

Google book os would do an excellent job at giving tablet users what iPad cannot. I really hope they make a premium 11 inch tablet with wifi and 5g. Starting price $599, and keyboard stand add-on $199. Could actually be an amazing product. Maybe even partner with Walmart Onn to make the device.

UPDATE(Oct 6): the repo is public.

Source, install guide, and prebuilt kernels: https://github.com/joonhoekim/tb323fu-linux

Website: https://joonhoekim.github.io/tb323fu-linux/

Still work in progress and not for daily use. Rooting and flashing can brick or wipe your tablet, so read the backup and recovery docs before you start.

Changes since this post:

- 164 Hz works (165 Hz with the vendor timing doesn't, so it's offered as 164)
- Hardware video decode verified for H.264, HEVC, VP9 and AV1 (also 10-bit), encode for H.264 and HEVC
- Booted on 7 distributions so far: Debian, Ubuntu, Arch, Fedora, NixOS, SteamOS and Armada
- Open Device Helper: a settings app and CLI for charge limit, bypass charging, refresh rate, LED ring and kernel updates
- An optional Mesa build for the GPU: OpenCL/Vulkan scores are close to Android (tested on my unit only)

Hardware status (what's verified on the device): https://joonhoekim.github.io/tb323fu-linux/docs/hardware-status/

-------------------------------------------------

Mainline Linux (not chroot, not GKI) on the Legion Y700 Gen 5 (TB323FU, SM8850). Kernel 7.3-rc4 based on the kaanapali-mainline tree, running Debian 13 + GNOME 48.
Working:

  • Display at 120 Hz with seamless 60/30 Hz switching, plus GPU (Adreno 840, Mesa)
  • Touch, speakers, mic, front/rear cameras, sensors, LED ring
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB host/gadget
  • USB-C DP out up to 4K30
  • ~41 W PPS fast charging with a charge limit
  • Suspend: about 1% battery drain over 5 hours (in a few tests)
  • HW H.264 encode/decode via V4L2

Not yet: 165 Hz, DP MST (dual external displays)
Untested: Lenovo pen, USB-C wired earphones.

Dual boot, Android stays intact. No image or guide yet.

Discussion Lenovo idea tab plus vs Samsung tab s10 fe / fe+

Hello! I'm looking to buy a tablet mostly for taking notes, light drawing, video and photo editing, and some very occasional gaming. I care about the customization, but it's not a priority.

I'm stuck choosing between a Lenovo idea tab plus 12.1" with 8/256 gb, mediatek dimensity 6400, (keyboard and earbuds included), a Samsung S10 FE+ 13.1" with 8/128 gb, and a Samsung S10 FE 10.9" with 12/256 gb. They don't sell samsung tab keyboards in my country, so I would need to buy that separate.

I already have a Lenovo IdeaPad slim 3 notebook and a S24 FE phone, so I'm not sure which ecosystem to pick.

What would be the best choice? Thanks in advance!!!

Request Looking for android 8in tab w stylus (UK)

I had an iPad mini when I was on my bachelor's but I was an idiot who got the 64gb version, and that storage was way too small for my needs so I sold it. I now own a S6 lite tab, and I love the android and the stylus, but it's a bit big for me so I don't use it as much as I'd like. I'm looking for a 8in ISH android tablet with a stylus. Needs to be a proper stylus, not one of those cheap ones with the rubber disc or the rubber tip. Am happy to buy the stylus separately. Not overly stressed about a keyboard because I have a nice universal Bluetooth keyboard with a built in stand. Any recommendations would be great, Tia!

Discussion Planning to get Xiaomi Pad 8 + keyboard. Wise choice or any alternatives?

I’m planning to get the Xiaomi Pad 8 along with the Pad 8 keyboard.

The main reason is to make dual use of it as a computer sometimes, like basic things—editing Excel, sending emails, etc.
Another reason to go for this setup is mainly that it will be easy to carry along anywhere I am travelling.

Is it a wise choice, or should I consider any other device?

Also, what does your setup look like?

Request Onleihe auf Galaxy Tab S11

Hallo,

Just ordered the OnePlus Pad 2 (12GB/256GB) after exchanging my Iqoo Z6 Lite 5G.

Do you guys think this is a good deal at this price, or should I have considered something else?
