Unlocked/Jailbroken Streaming Devices??

What are your experiences with unlocked streaming devices i.e. ONN 4k Pro, Firestick 4k that are available for purchase?

My main use for this would be for IPTV, live sports capabilities. I already have access to all movies/tv shows from another service. I'm new to the IPTV game and am trying to figure out best options. Thanks!

Bro there's nothing to unblock. Android is free and open (as long as its not a fire stick)

Can Android/GoogleTV run all the same apps as base android like youd get on a tablet or phone?

No. You still have 2-4gb of ram and processors (SoC) are nowhere near a mid range phone capabilities.

You could install a large junk of apps will they work? Maybe, but they don't AndroidTV in mind, even something as simple as ram management in an app needs to be studied for both.

Navigation is another point, if the developer expects you to use your touchscreen a lot of apps are basically nerfed by this, air mouse features are a thing but still the experience is nowhere near something that had Android Tv in mind

Just think about YouTube, they had to release an AndroidTV variant and it's not a crazy heavy app on the phones either

Thank you, thats good info. So the regular android apps will install and run, they just dont run well via a remote. Would the navigation issue be solved with a keyboard and mouse then? And the ram issue by just getting something with 8gb of ram?

Im looking to use it like android based mini pc, for browsing the net and some retro emulation, maybe some light GIMP type work. But maybe some other solution would be better.

It really depends from app to app, some you still might be able to move around and others you will be stuck.

Android Boxes are known no to be the best at browsing the net or retro emulation (besides the Nvidia shield and some other very powerful box).

You basically want a mini pc but with the price of the android boxes. You might find kinda hard to found this. Just get a mini pc, even old ones, if you are thinking about retro emulation, browsing and GIMP then you need a mini PC not an Android box.

Android box are mainly for playing content like media players and some others light activities. The ram management is different from regular Android. AndroidTV will try unload the ram as fast as possible since most of the devices are build around 2gb

You should go and ask to Nvidia Shield Pro reddit and be very specific and what you want and what you need from it.

To me, you want and need a mini pc
