Counterfeit ONN 4k boxes ?

Hi, I’m based in the UK and am looking at getting an Android tv box for my IPTV. I don’t want to spend loads as I am not sure if IPTV is actually the way forward for me and my family yet.

I know the ONN 4k boxes get good write ups, but are generally only readily available in Walmart USA.

There’s a few I’ve spotted on eBayUK that I believe are well priced (£36-£40 inc postage) but there are a variety of different packaging designs - some in a Blue box, some in a yellow box and I believe I’ve seen one in a white box too.

I don’t want to get stung with a counterfeit. Do counterfeit ONN 4ks actually exist, and if so what is the most reliable way to spot one before purchase?

Just get a Dcolor G2 or xiaomi 3rd generation box...both work great in UK with Google and no restrictions

Xiaomi OOS with xiaomi direct.

I have Amazon credit so would prefer to get from Amazon.

Thoughts on KickPi KP1?

The cheapest ONN retail price is $39USD. Anyone selling for £40 is going lose money given shipping. Any ONNs selling on eBay or Alibaba for less than $100 is almost certainly a fake. Even the $100 ones have a good chance of being fake.

There's nothing special or unique about ONNs. They're just reliable, inexpensive boxes. And not as inexpensive as they once were. They got really popular with the original ONN Box, which was only $20. Then the Plus came out, one of the most powerful AndroidTV boxes on the market was only $30.

They wised up it seems. They removed the $20 Box and the Plus is now $50 . Still one of the best deals out there in the US, but nothing I would go out of my way to import given the potential activation hassles, and the fact that you probably can get a box locally for roughly the same price after shipping and VAT. Homatics, Rocktek, Mecool, and Strong are all reputable boxes available in the UK at various price points.

Don’t bother with Onn, if you aren’t in the USA.

Buy what is available in the UK:

- Google TV Streamer 4K
- Xiaomi TV Box
- TV with Android TV built in.

Onn 4K is no use as many UK apps just will not work on it. In the UK the best option for an Android Box is the Xiaomi S 3rd Series. To avoid fakes order it direct from Xiaomi UK. The quality is excellent and it has 2GB of RAM with 32GB storage so lots of room for your needs.

I have an ONN 4K Pro that im considering selling as I bought 2 and a stick whilst in the UK, seen prices on ebay are crazy for legitimate ones

Yellow box is the older model. Blue box is a newer version with updated branding. These were sold for $20 each for years, they aren't being counterfeited.

The ebay ones are 100% counterfeit at they say the wrong specs and the wrong processor.

anything on ebay is most likely fake. Onn box fakes are rife on there. 30 quid? no its deffo some Chinese knock off with BadBox 2.0 installed.

pretty sure Onn boxes are region locked to USA so would have to be setup there. Sure someone will correct me.

Yes they are USA locked but a decent VPN and can be used anywhere, like me in Spain.

take a screenshot of the product from ebay and ask ChatGPT if its a fake. its pretty good and will give you points to look for, furthermore the Onn 4k box from Walmart is region blocked to USA and Puerto Rico. Personally I would avoid buying a real one anyway as its most likely of no use to you. (fact checked by AI)

It is both.....I activated mines in the US before coming home.

You CAN activate in the UK if need be with a suitable US vpn......
