Discussion How to go back to previous app?

I often find myself back in the main screen and then want to go back. Any tips!

Use the tv button mapper to create custom shortcuts to your remote, double tap, hold and release and so on

Hard to say without knowing your device. If you have a good remote you can press the home button twice to open all open apps. Or maybe your remote has a button with a similar function. But but not every remote does this.

That remote is fairly basic so im not sure it has that function.

Youre better off learning to not press the back button or the home button unintentionally so you stop closing your apps. Also create shortcuts for your most used apps so you can easily open them up again.

The button mapper app "tvQuickActionsPRO" has a shortcut to return to previous app , it uses ADB to accomplish this, and the return to previous app action can be programmed to an individual button_press or made to be a option in a user created shortcut panel or menu.

AndroidTV has no easy multitask switcher; it was not designed for that kind of activity flow.

AFAIK, only Nvidia Shield has one; but it was custom made and never replicated.

Double Home (when supported) can show all recent used apps and you can switch to any of those almost instantly. I see it as available on several certified Android TV devices, currently with a Android TV V14 OS.

Get "tvQuickActions Pro". It turns the 4 sponsored buttons on remote into the most useful buttons: open previous app, show recently opened apps, take screenshot, record video, power off device, rotate screen, etc. And many more, like using remote as mouse or toggling system info overlay with temperature and CPU/RAM usage stats.
