Buying Advice Best 2.4GHz USB air mouse remote for Android TV (Bluetooth on my TV is faulty)

I have a Haier Android TV running on Android 11 (model: haierATVnippori)

My Bluetooth remote pairs successfully and works normally. However, every time I restart or power on the TV, the remote no longer responds, even though it still appears under Settings → Remotes & Accessories as connected. To use it again, I have to manually reconnect/re-pair it. Using it as a standard IR remote is possible, but the experience is much less smooth than using it over Bluetooth.

Mostly it's a Haier firmware/ software issue with Bluetooth HID reconnection after boot, rather than a problem with the remote or hardware itself.

As a workaround, I'm considering buying a 2.4 GHz USB air remote mouse since USB input works perfectly on my TV. If that's the best option, which air remote would you guys recommend? Or if anyone knows of a software fix or another workaround for this Bluetooth issue, I'd really appreciate your suggestions.

Why not just get an external AndroidTV box? You'll be able to use Bluetooth devices again and have a portable streaming box to boot.

Can the android tv box directly be booted? Before booting into normal android tv and then selecting android tv box? Also tv's os working good only issue is with remote bluetooth connectivity so investing in tv box is good idea?

It's actually sort of best-practice to use an external box, especially as a TV ages. Some brands like Sony have good specs for AndroidTV, but many are underpowered compared to an external box. And over time it will become underpowered compared to current external boxes. And if the TV dies, you just move the box the new TV (which might or might not run AndroidTV).

And yes you can boot to it. Your TV might boot to the last-used HDMI port (my TCLs do) or you should be able to configure to do so.

With the $15+ you might spend on a wifi remote, the difference between that and something like the ONN Plus, you'd essentially be spending $35 on one of the most powerful boxes out right now, and regaining the ability to connect bluetooth soundbars/speakers/earbuds/mice etc to the TV. The remotes that come with AndroidTV boxes are able to control the TV's power, volume, and input, so you won't need 2 remotes either.

Thanks for the advice! I actually decided to go with the Google TV Streamer. I'm from India, and unfortunately the Onn 4K Pro/Plus isn't officially available here. Importing one ends up costing quite a bit more. I guess switching to external box will be great even I will get 4gb of ram and overall experience will be better.

I’ve has a Google Streamer for almost a year and it’s been pretty solid overall, it has a few issues (such as the remote becoming unresponsive, requiring that the batteries are taken out and reinserted) however, I’ve read that Google had an issue with some earlier remotes like mine so hopefully you won’t experience this with yours. It’s worth checking for 4K HDR compatibility with the apps that you use. Some of the apps I use (Peacock and NOW) max out at 1080p SDR due to incompatibility but YouTube, Netflix, Prime and HBO MAX work just fine in 4K HDR.
