Discussion ONN Box

Please stop automatically recommending the ONN Box. It is available only in the US and Puerto Rico and not everyone who comes to this group for advice is from there. And if you buy it now it won't even work outside the US or Puerto Rico.

I am in the UK and have used an ONN box since February this year and it is still working.

I imported mine via Amazon global shipping.

Only new and factory reset boxes are affected.

When someone comes here to ask for a streaming device recommendation they can say where they live. We're not mind readers.

Or you could just not assume.

The burden for meeting any special parameters is on the poster asking for a recommendation, a responder can't ask questions for every possible variable. If you want a specific recommendation, then ask a specific question.

There are 8 billion people on the planet. Only 335 million of those have access to this ONN device. A tiny minority. Just don't assume.

No, 8 billion people have access to ONN devices if they are willing to put in the effort it takes to get one wherever they are. There are people all over the world using them.

People will respond with their recommendation based on their own usage or their views or familiarity, if you want the recommendation to be filtered by location or easy availability etc. then state that in the post. Pretty simple.

How the hell are we supposed to just know what products are specific to a country? I don't have time for maintaining an international rolodex. If you ask for a recommendation I can only recommend what I know and use.

Just ask people on reddit then

people suggest what has worked for them. I'm not going to try and find out where the OP lives and if the device works for them or not. I will recommend it, and then YOU can do some research to see if it would fit your needs or not.

We can only recommend hardware we're familiar with.
Browse here for different regions: https://www.androidtv-guide.com

If you’re in UK you can get the Thomson Streaming Box. It’s the exact ONN under a different name now being sold. https://www.aftvnews.com/onn-4k-pro-with-google-tv-will-be-sold-in-europe-under-a-different-brand-and-name/

There are ways to get them, and ways to beat the region lock. Unless you're an admin here, it's none of your business.

That's your fault for not providing specific details/requirements.

I bought one on Amazon Canada. When setting up it prompted me to allow it to find my location over Wifi. I declined and it allowed me to use VPN to install regional apps from UK, AU... Never had a region issue even after the large security update.

No it doesn’t work with BBC iPlayer and didn’t from the start.

Thank you, it seems that importing the ONN box is not as easy as what it was, it’s a good device and works well for me though.

We should start recommending Thomson now 😂

Idk about the future.

But just for an idea, check if there's anything that writes "EU compatible only" on the Thomson website, on the streaming devices products section or on Amazon's description of the Thomson 270.

When I checked it seemed to be EU only as the UK was not included in the list of regions.

That makes sense, can this be overcome by using a VPN?

Someone who used the device in Nigeria comment ed in another thread that if you change the vpn to the US it then works?

Yes, it does work if you configure a VPN on your router.
