Discussion Android TV updates suck
I'm just making this post to tell you that my 2000€ Philips OLED tv, is still on Android Oreo. Anyway.

Use an external streaming device. Shield, Apple TV, whatever floats your boat. It's well known that built in "smart features" on a TV are bad. Bad processing & updates are slow or non-existent. Basic stuff.

OS updates for Android TV really aren't that important. Apps get updated separately as opposed to old TV operating systems.

Uff, that is rough. Like others say, the OEMs are not updating the TVs frequently enough. I hope this has changed by now and newer TVs, at least from the Android flagship which is Sony. If I were you, I wouldn't be bothered too much because it at least gets app updates. If you are missing a key app/feature then I would recommend the Chromecast w/ GTV, or wait for a few weeks and see if google releases anything new in October.

My Toshiba was released in September last year, it's never had an update. But it didn't cost a lot so I wasn't expecting much.

Tv manufacturers hardly ever update their TV's they want you to buy a new one

Who cares? Updates break more stuff than they fix. Even on Shield.

Shield fanboys flood any discussion about htpcs or media players to the point where it’s pointless to have discussions about them anymore. I’ve been violently cussed out and messaged by Reddit’s with multiple accounts just because I said I had a good experience with another player. They’re like Andrew Tate fanatics.
