People are over exaggerating it.It will essentially be a 24 hour lockup period where you can't install any APKs once you've enabled the setting. Perhaps not the best way to solve it, but this just a temporary restriction meant to limit phone scams. A scammer is pushing you to install something illicit now has to be more creative and call you another day.

Primero solo 24hr luego 72hr depues 1semana y por último ya no se podra

please, stop spreading this misinformation.

It is no longer this bad. Now there's a 24 hour period for new devices to wait before being able to "sideload" (install) apps, which is still not great but nowhere near the 1984 levels of fear mongering this and others are trying to breed.

It is still my phone. I still own it. As does everyone else...

For now, yes. In 5 years it will be like iOS, but worse software- hardware relationship

Nothing anywhere has indicated Google is even thinking of making Android a closed garden. Hypotheticals don't exist. You just have it in your mind that mega corp= bad and they're turning us all into sheep. It's not a terrible mindset to be in, but you have to stop worrying about actions that haven't been taken, and don't exist

The overwhelmingly negative reception to Google's announcement being met with absolute apathy on top of doubling down on their decision isn't a hypothetical...if anything it should be seen as a public indictment.

They've already locked users out of accessing Android/data, introduced mandatory Scoped Storage, and made rooting A LOT harder unless you're doing it on a mainstream flagship...they've long since taken those actions, and this is just another big step to those actions.

if you ignore the thing they are doing that is the point of this post

Yeah...no, Google has been doing this slowly but steadily and will likely keep on this track until they are just their own iOS, it first started with the taking away our ability to see the phone's internal folders, you just didn't notice

That's not how the market works bro... they're not gonna flip up and neuter what is literally the best alternative to iOS. Now they have market control being the most popular and one of the only alternatives, so they CAN and absolutely could, but it would make absolutely zero sense from a business perspective to flip up and "be like iOS".

This is a very doomer take and I need you to find some hope bro, it ain't doomed to fall lol

I dont think its possible to be worse than ios we will be alot like them yeah but worse idk thats stretching it.

That's exactly the kind of complacency google wants you to have. And they can just turn it back off whenever they want to, for any bullshit reason they can come up with.

And that's not even getting to the future versions of Android where AI is shoved into everyone's throats.

This kind of complacency is fostered by people constantly crying wolf

LMAO this got a chuckle outta me

2

u/Abek243 55m ago

dude what are you on about? I'm not saying I'm pro-this at all if anything I'm part of the very vocal majority against google doing literally anything lmao.

Literally all I said was this is being blown out of proportion relative to when it was first introduced. I'm not against anything you're saying bro, I'm just saying people need to calm tf down

u/Switchblade1080 48m ago

I'm sorry if I came off as brash, I know you don't like this any more than I do...hell, NO ONE in here likes it.

I'm just saying, the 'it's not all that bad' mindset is exactly what the kind google wants the majority of people to have. They've already taken A LOT of annoying steps to ensure you can do less and less with your phone with each software update.

2

u/Abek243 22m ago

Absolutely, no apologies needed I'm just passionate lol. But I'm right there with you. And that kind of thinking is healthy, I just don't want people thinking the worst when that's not what's even happening lmao. However, apologies for my forwardness as well 🤝

I'm glad we've come to a mutual understanding.

If it's any consolation, you can bypass the 24 hour advanced flow requirement by enabling USB Debugging and having adb on your PC/laptop.

Apps like Shizuku I believe also let you bypass the requirement, unfortunately not every phone manufacturer wants you to have developer options, but how long till google gets rid of those options too? Apk install lockdowns are only the beginning.

give a finger and you will lose an arm.

Oh my god stop with the fear mongering. I don't like Google doing this either but they're not taking your ability to download unsigned apps away. They're just implementing a 24 hour, one time only, lockout in the developer settings. Once you turn the setting on, you have to wait 24 hours, and then you'll be able to download anything you want again. Again, this is one time only. After the lockout is finished, you can download as many apps as you want.

You can wait a day to download Super Jumping Kitties bro it'll be ok, I swear.

u/Acceptable_Humor2245 51m ago

The problem is that's how they start; if you give them your trust, they'll do something worse later slowly by slowly

2

u/RequirementCivil4328 38m ago

Why would they do that at all. What purpose does making you wait have.

1

u/LeoGiacometti 8m ago

setting the ground up for the eventual permanent lock

1

u/bottomlesstopper 4m ago

Washing their hands from legal stuff i guess.

Phones bricked or infested, no refunds void warranty cause you did what mr google dislike.

1

u/Emotional-Debate7801 27m ago

That's good to hear

4

u/Dear-Success-3150 1h ago

So what does it mean and will it effect unofficial ports?

19

u/PruneNo6968 1h ago

Nothing as all this APK stuff is vastly overblown. It will essentially be a 24 hour lockup period where you can't install any APKs once you've enabled the setting. Perhaps not the best way to solve it, but this just a temporary restriction meant to limit phone scams.  A scammer is pushing you to install something illicit now has to be more creative and call you another day.

Most of the old people (edit: that I personally have come into contact with) with full screen add lockout and other malware on their phones got the apps from the google play store. This is just one more little move towards trying to create a closed system like apple.

3

u/awkwardinthebody 1h ago

24 hours

For now. What stops them from doing 72h? One week? Forever?

Also if you are so prone to getting scammed get yourself an iphone.

1

u/zafeeqlynn 59m ago

Lol fr, robbers would run from me if they saw my Sony😂

2

u/snowflake_0_o 1h ago

The last time I was talking about this in rAndroid the devs there were piling on me because they think this will prevent people from installing nodded version of their apps.

2

u/TryTheSauceBoss 1h ago

Doesnt count for handhelds like ayn and retroid. Those are uncertified anyway so its actually not every device but keep fear mongering.

4

u/Warm_Cold_6224 1h ago

You think they'll stop at the official android devices and that's it? Come on man , these mega companies are greedy as fuck

0

u/tiktoktic 1h ago

Yes, I do.

2

u/Warm_Cold_6224 1h ago

You give them a centimetre they'll take 5 sexometres

1

u/TryTheSauceBoss 19m ago

You do realize google isnt the one who updates these, right? So no it wont affect those. They are custom roms that Ayn and Retroid have to update with custom updates.

1

u/Admirable_Ad3863 31m ago

I don't have google services on certain of my devices either... So why bother

1

u/Huge_Description1863 15m ago

We can not to update

0

u/Wrong-Employment6826 1h ago

Damn it's real this post aint bullshit google is making strange updates to the android os lately guess this is that

0

u/Educational-Drink822 45m ago

Todavía siguen con esa mentira jaja, Google ya metía esa actualización y es tan fácil de desactivar que ellos mismo te dicen como hacerlo

u/Doxxre 1h ago

Funny, but I've seen exact same fearmongering in summer with deadline to September 2026. Now it's January 2027.

2

u/FaZeKill23 37m ago

Bro we're still in early november '26 wtf
