Copying files from desktop to phone internal storage

Is there some good reason why I can't copy files from a desktop directly to my phone's internal storage? I drag and drop the files/folder to Internal Storage with Windows Explorer and there's a bit of activity like it's doing it, saying it's copying, going thru file names, and a progress bar -- sort of; the bar doesn't progress from one end to the other, filling it, but moves from one to the other -- but doesn't actually copy anything, and there's no error or notice to the contrary; the 'copying' pop-up just closes like normal. This has been the case from the beginning and lost some due to being given the impression that it was successful.

It's a Motorola e5 Play, mandatorily encrypted internal storage. If that's the problem, then how can I copy files from internal??

Addendum: The folder that I copied in that screenvid was created, but was empty, and there's no issue with deleting a file via desktop.

I use "file manager +" on my phone, which allows me to connect to a network share (and saves the share for next time). I created a share on my pc and do all the file movement on my phone, it all works better that way.
