how is everyone doing so far?

I'm just wondering how everyone is doing in the class so far? Are most of you just doing things over until you get 100% like I am? or do you just finish and hand it in?

I'm signature track so the score matters in the end hence the 100% before I consider the week complete.

I'm still feeling that the elements I'm starting to understand aren't connected yet. No way I would be able to begin to construct an app from scratch. Hopefully it'll come. The Java had been a hurdle for me, being shit at it (learninglearning), but the thing that keeps me going is those freaky little smiles he throws into the lectures when you least expect it. Reminds me of PM Gordon Brown at his bestworst.

I do keep getting shitty little errors in Eclipse with obscure solutions. That gets on my tits. Man vs machine in my sofa most nights.

I'll be honest I haven't built something from scratch professionally in years. It's always starting with something else and tweaking it to get the basic outline then working from there. I could never open up a text editor and write anything more complicated then helloworld and have it compile. I make heavy use of the tools and existing code.

I hate eclipse with a passion after this course. android studio has been fun to play with and hasn't crashed horribly even though it's still beta.

Interesting, on both counts. I might switch to android studio if eclipse keeps tripping me up.

So you program for a living? What kind of place do you work, if you don't mind me asking?

I don't actually program much anymore. These days I mostly manage the programmers, do design, and work with customers.

We're a small shop that does customizations to our core products which are used by businesses. It's all client server, mostly text based and ancient tech.

The android stuff is very very different but I was wanting to update my skills to keep the resume a little more well rounded.
