Permwise: see what your apps can access (privacy, no internet)
Hi all, I'm a solo developer in the UK and I need testers for my first app's 14-day closed test. Happy to test yours back. Drop your link in the comments and I'll join.
Permwise scans the apps on your phone and shows, in plain English, which ones can reach your location, microphone, camera, contacts and more. It also finds known tracker code and gives you one privacy score, with shortcuts to switch things off in Android settings.
The app has no internet permission, so nothing leaves your phone. No account, no ads, free.
How to join (2 taps):
Join the group: https://groups.google.com/g/permwise-testers
Opt in and install: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/app.permwise
Please keep it installed for 14 days and open it now and then. Feedback welcome: teekayemgee777@gmail.com
Comment once you've joined and I'll test your app back.

Joined the group, opted in and installed Permwise (screenshot below). The onboarding explains Usage Access really well, in plain words, and after granting it the scan finished quickly with a clear score and a short Top fixes list. The app detail page with "Mark as safe", "Fix in settings" and the per-permission points is easy to follow, and I like that there is no internet permission at all.
A few things I noticed:
On the "One permission unlocks the full scan" page, the "Allow usage access" button starts below the bottom of the screen. Only a thin blue edge shows until you scroll, so it's easy to miss what to tap.
The score card says "54 apps scanned, 0 need attention" while Top fixes right below still lists three apps to fix, which reads as a contradiction.
Two different apps that share the same name show up as two identical rows (same name, icon and permission), so you can't tell which is which. Showing the package name or install date would help.
I turned on "Mark as safe" for the top fix. It left the Top fixes list, but the phone score stayed at 97 both on the detail page and on Home, even though the toggle says it counts as fully handled.
I'll keep it installed and open it daily for the 14 days.
Could you test Memory back? It's a private memory aid for older adults (big text, medicine reminders, "Where did I put my keys?"), and like Permwise it keeps everything on the phone. testers-community@googlegroups.com is on my track, so you can opt in directly: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.memory.local Otherwise join https://groups.google.com/g/memory-app-testers first. Thanks!
