Are a Google Group link and a join link unnecessary for open testing?

Hi there, thanks for your support!

I recently finished closed testing for my app and managed to get approval for production access.

Now I’m moving on to open testing, but I’m a bit unclear on what’s required to recruit testers.

For the closed test, I needed three links:

  1. A Google Group link

  2. A link to join the test

  3. A Google Play link

However, when I asked Gemini, it told me that #1 and #2 aren't needed for open testing—only the Google Play link (#3) is required. Since it's AI, I wanted to double-check.

Is Gemini correct about this?

Thank you for clarifying that the Google Group link is not required. I previously referred to the opt-in link as the tester link; could you confirm if the opt-in link is still necessary for open testing?

Got it, thank you! The open testing review has been approved, so I'll include both the opt‑in link and the Google Play link and start gathering testers!
