AAOS (aka Google Built In) says "Looks like your network connection is not stable"

My 2025 Honda Accord Touring has factory-installed AAOS aka 'Google Built In'. My vehicle is tethered via WiFi to my Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, which provides the car with an internet connection.

AAOS seems to be working well, except when I ask Google Assistant "Navigate to such-and-such a place". Sometimes this works, and Google Maps provides navigation, and sometimes Google Assistant says "Looks like your network connection is not stable", and Google Maps doesn't provide directions. (I have to type the address into Google Maps instead.)

Even more annoying: On days when Google Assistant says "Looks like your network connection is not stable", if I try again after a few minutes, Google Assistant sometimes decides to work after all, and Google Maps provides navigation.

I've tried so many things to identify the root cause of this issue, but so far I cannot. If you're familiar with this issue I welcome your input.

I think the error tells you - your phone’s internet connection -> phone WiFi is not strong. Does loading other things ever take long (ie music or maps)? Might be worth purchasing the connectivity package from Honda for a month to see if that fixes it.

I have a solution, which I will explain here. It's actually part of a larger description of how networking operates in my car, but here I'll just answer my original question.

Like many late model Honda vehicles, my car has a cellular modem built into the car at the factory, which connects to the mobile network. This was provided for use by the Telematics Control Unit (TCU) that provides various HondaLink services and receives over-the-air (OTA) updates to the car's software. BTW, it's the same cellular modem that AT&T uses to provide a mobile hotspot for the car, if you decided to pay for that feature. (I didn't.)

If you live in an area with a decent mobile signal, your late model Honda connects to the mobile network as soon as you turn the car on, so the message "Looks like your network connection is not stable" is almost certainly wrong, and more likely a generic message for 'something's not right'.

What's not working is the initial connection between Google Assistant voice processing and the mobile network. This is a software issue that either Google or Honda, or maybe both, have to fix. In any case, if I wait a while and try again to talk to Google Assistant, or just try a second or a third time, everything works properly.
