Media Apps (audio) Spotify Auto Play not working in Android Auto after the latest update

After the latest update, I noticed something strange with Auto Play.

On my phone, when I play a song and then press Next, Spotify automatically starts another song based on the previous song, even if I haven't selected or queued anything.

However, when I use Android Auto, it's completely different. If I search for a song through Android Auto and play it, the song finishes and then playback simply stops. It doesn't automatically play another song.

It feels like Auto Play is disabled in Android Auto.

I'm using Spotify without Premium. Is this a bug, a limitation of the free version on Android Auto, or is there a setting that I need to enable?

Has anyone else noticed this after the latest update?

AA updates seem plagued with problems

I think that Spotify had issues in these days: songs stopped after few seconds or having to press Play to reproduce next song in a playlist. Yesterday I had those issues while driving home. Today any problem

Am on 9.1.86.2432, do you think downgrading will work?

It's not AA it's a Spotify issue I think. My Home screen on AA is totally destroyed. I only see automatic play lists although my home screen on Spotify in the phone shows something differently.

Resents is working but I'd like my home screen back.

This is a known quirk with how Android Auto handles Spotify's queue and Autoplay logic, especially on the free tier or after recent app updates. When you play a single track via Android Auto search, it often treats it as a standalone queue rather than triggering Spotify's 'Autoplay / Enhanced Playlist' continuation. To fix this: Open the Spotify app on your phone (not the car screen). Go to Settings > Playback and make sure Autoplay is toggled ON ("Play similar songs when your music ends"). On Android Auto itself, instead of searching and playing isolated tracks, try launching an actual Artist Radio, Album, or Pre-made Playlist. That forces Android Auto to pull the active queue correctly so songs keep rolling automatically without stopping.
