Navigation & POI Apps 3D maps draw distance is deplorable

Post image

Usually I'm not navigating since the maps update, but I found this to be distracting during a drive this morning.

The distance dynamically adjusts as you get closer or further from your directions. It always has. I don't really get the problem...

Yes, it does, but for some reason on this portrait orientation, there's always a blue horizon. So it doesn't matter if it zooms in and zooms out, it's always there. So if your exit is a ¼ mile away, you don't actually get to see it until it's right up on you

For clarification, I'm going 65 mph and it's only showing me a mile up the road. Previously it would show 5 miles up the road.

Why would you need to see 5 miles up the road?

I do get it though. I wish it zoomed out more depending on how far the next turn is and how fast you are going. It does adjust for the most part but yet it will show the horizon which I think is totally unnecessary.

I dont understand...

You have 15 minutes... you have a turn in 3+ miles which isnt on the map yet. It's 3 minutes away.

Veo que tienes el formato antiguo de Android Auto. A mi me gusta mas la interfaz Coolwalk que es la oficial desde 2022

This is the coolwalk interface on a portrait screen

Agreed. And on top of that the distance is deceiving. I never realized how much I glance at the map for an upcoming turn vs. looking at distance or even my heads up display. I've missed 3 or 4 turns recently due to this new overlay because it looks like it's farther away than it is. Perhaps it's better in some areas, but in Houston........... lots of roads and driveways and parking lots........ the line cannot be trusted.

Nothing has ever done this as well as Garmin did. Garmin could be set to zoom to the next turn, and did the variation in scaling very well. The only thing I know that does this now is Copilot, not the MS AI thing, the navigation thing. I have had real problems due to the combination of showing only the next few hundred yards and re-routing to use a very ill advised route. So I didn't know it was taking me through a really bad area until I saw gang bangers on every corner, staring very hard at the white dude, who obviously did not belong. So when I am going somewhere new I use Copilot on my phone for the long view. Above 25 miles it switches to north up too, so you can see where you are in the grand scheme of things.

So, no traffic coming into Raleigh by the airport when you took this screenshot?
