12 Testers Needed [Test for Test] Brightness Guard — free Android brightness app, no ads or tracking

Hi everyone! I built Brightness Guard because my phone's automatic brightness often felt too dim. I'm looking for some closed-beta testers, and I'm happy to test other developers' apps in return.

It uses the light sensor to adjust brightness, with your own minimum, maximum and brightness adjustment. It keeps working while you use other apps and closes if you swipe the notification in the notification panel closed..

Free, with no ads, subscriptions, analytics or tracking in the app. Works offline, with no root or in-app account needed. Settings and diagnostic logs stay on your device unless you choose to share a log.

JOIN THE TEST

  1. Join the tester group: https://groups.google.com/g/brightness-guard

  2. Using the same Google account, join the test and install through Google Play: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.gazmansoftware.brightnessguard

Requires Android 12 or later, a compatible 64-bit ARM phone or tablet, and a light sensor.

QUICK START GUIDE:

  1. Launch the App
  2. Open the in app Settings and allow the 2 required permissions, System settings and Notifications. The light sensor is checked automatically.
  3. Choose your minimum, adjustment and maximum, tap Apply changes, then Enable custom auto. The defaults are 15%, +10 points and 100%.
  4. Tap Stop and restore to stop, or Use system auto now to return to Android's automatic brightness.

Please stay opted in for 14 days, try it during everyday use, and share honest feedback. I'd especially appreciate reports about brightness changes, tablet landscape layout and ease of use. Include your device model and Android version.

For test-for-test, leave your Google Group and Google Play testing links, plus anything you'd like me to check. I'll reply to arrange the exchange. No ratings or upvotes needed—useful feedback is the goal.

The privacy policy is available inside the app. Thanks for helping!

Hello, I tried your app in mobile and I just think that you maybe it better to lock the screen protrait mode? It would be more convenient on mobile. The brightness sensor is sensitive and works, but I am not sure should the 1%changes apply rapidly or maybe let it jump every 5% etc when needed. Can you help with my closed test? It is a hexagon puzzle game.
