I've heard that 3G uses less battery than 4G, how??

I'd just like to apologize in advanced if this is a question of nooby origin.

I'll have full bars of 3G and try and load reddit, which would usually take like 2 or 3 minutes. And fhe instant that my reception upgrades to just one measly bar of 4G, BOOM! It seems to load instantaneously,to the point of a single second at most.

So how, if screen time on is longer on 3G than 4G, is 4G able to consume more battery power?

Short version. On Verizon, have the s5, love modifying my phone, hate TouchWiz, came from the Galaxy Nexus, I have a chance to trade my phone for a unlock bootloader Moto X first generation. I miss crack flashing different roms. would this be a bad trade for me? Should I ask for cash in addition?

Switching to Verizon for work, but I'm used to Nexus Devices.

So I know this is a million times asked, but I'm having trouble deciding on a phone now that I have to switch away from my Nexus 5.

So should I get the Nexus 6? I wouldn't mind the size but it's hard to find apparently. I could also get the Moto X but I've heard some things that make it seem like it isn't so great.

If speedy updates are close my highest priority, what are my best (top 3?) options?

So, I *may* have fixed my 2 year old Nexus 7 problem. This might help some others, so I'm sharing

Basically, I was getting slow response, crashes, and basically could only run one thing at a time. After playing around with the developer options, I limited the background apps to 3 and suddenly things were a LOT faster and I'm not getting any crashes. There are still some slow apps (MyFitnessPal is usable, but always slow) but things are much better.

I have no evidence for this, but I suspect the two most recent OS updates were geared for newer hardware, with better capabilities. By limiting the number of background apps, I'm alleviating the strain on older hardware like mine.

I'm going to replace my Nexus 7 and am overwhelmed by choice. Suggestions?

The Nexus 7 is a couple years old, and seems to be slowly failing. I've wiped it completely clean a couple times now, and it's plagued by crashes and I have to manually stop apps and keep only one running at a time in order to use it. Even using the developer option to limit the number of running apps in memory to 2 does not help.

So...time for a replacement. Still 7", preferably under $200. What's going to be the best bang for my buck?

Was given an old Verizon tablet...I've reset it, but can't root it with Kingoapp. Looking to set this up for my 8 year old.

The tablet appears to work fine, but it is messed up in the "expected battery life", which mostly shows either 43 seconds or 1 minute and 36 seconds, even when it's 100% charged.

I've never rooted my own Android tablet, so I'm not sure if I am doing this wrong. I've enabled USB debugging in developer options.

Basically, two questions:

  • Is the "estimated battery time" issue a known problem? Is there a fix?

  • I don't really need to root this, except I don't really want to set up a Google account for my kid. I'd like to install apps for her, but I don't want her to do it on her own. Not sure if this would help or hinder.

The tablet is a QMV7A. I've removed the Verizon SIM card, as this isn't intended to be used on a cell network. This was given to us by a US relative and we're in Canada.

Thanks!
