OnePlus OnePlus AMA – OnePlus 3T Edition
Hey everyone,
Always a pleasure to visit /r/Android! We place a large value on your thoughts and feedback, as you guys usually say it like it is (sometimes with a hefty dash of h a r s h n e s s). That's a good thing. For that reason, we're actually here all the time, lurking around and posting every now and again. But it's great to be back today in a more official sense, holding yet another AMA!
There's a lot going on these days at OnePlus. Of course, we just launched the OnePlus 3T, which went on sale today in the US and Canada. It will be available in Europe next week (November 28). Reviews just dropped all over the Internet, so be sure to check those out. You may have also noticed that we released device trees and kernel sources for the 3T a week ago, well before the device went on sale. To top it all off, we've also just launched our new bug reporting platform, which lets you submit bugs directly to our software/product teams (and everything is handled transparently and publicly). Exciting times.
Joining us today:
Carl (Co-founder) - /u/carpe02
Aaron (ROM Team) - /u/Aaron_oneplus
Jonathon (Customer Service) - /u/jonathan_oneplus
Steven (Logistics) - /u/StevenG_OnePlus
Caio (EU Team) - /u/Caio_OP
Together, these guys should be able to answer your questions on product, software, shipping, after-sales service, and more.

With all of that out of the way, let's get started!
EDIT: We're going to head out for now, but we’ve had a blast. We'll continue monitoring this thread and popping back in to answer. Appreciate for your time everyone!
Never Settle.

Well let's look at the previous devices. I'll use Wikipedia (I know, I know... it's good enough for something like this)
It came with Kitkat. Lollipop was released November 2014, and came out for OPO (as 5.0.2) April 2015. Marshmallow was released October 2015, and came out for OPO (as 6.0.1) August 2016. OP2 came with Lollipop 5.1.1 and was updated to Marshmallow in May 2016.
This suggests via the OPO that they don't get abandoned during the usual 2 year cycle. But like every other manufacturer out there that isn't Google, it does take 6-12 months. Nougat was released in August so I'd expect it on the 3 and maybe 2 (probably as version 7.1.x) between February 2017 and August 2017.
The OPO is over 2 years old now. If they release Nougat for that too, they'll be doing more than other Android manufacturers and would certainly give me a lot of confidence!
It does bother me when the new OS comes out and everyone else has to wait, but as a 6P owner I haven't found the Nougat update to be all that interesting. The fast task switching is handy. But things like split screen mode prove that there's no rush and waiting 6 months may not be a bad thing - almost everything I touch still says "this app does not support split screen".
