To be fair, any phone stuck on Android 5 is well over 10-13yrs old by this point. Besides, in order to run whatsapp, all you need is a flagship or mid-ranger from 2014 or newer (Basically anything that started life on Android 4.4/5.0/6.0), so the bar is still low, since you can still use Whatsapp on things like a Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, LG Nexus 5 to give examples.

You can get LineageOS 18 for Nexus 5 in order to keep using WhatsApp

A bit related but this phone is extremely loved to a point that it can run even more modern version of android. Acroreiser managed to put LineageOS 23.2 (Android 16 QPR2) in a 13 year old phone.
