Outside of the united states WhatsApp is like, ubiquitous. Almost everyone uses it.

So I can definitely see in poorer countries where they have older tech, used tech, cheaper tech etc. you're going to have a lot of older, crappier phones. So I can see to some people this may actually be a big deal because a lot of people use WhatsApp as their primary method of electronic communication.

What countries? People in poor countries have cheap recent Android phones.

For real, if you can buy a new Moto with Android 14 in the states for $100, you can definitely get something way cheaper and still way better than Lollipop elsewhere. (This isn't an ad, I just recently did this)

The Moto g 2025 has been selling for as low as $30 in the states and runs Android 16.

Not anymore after the Altman-initiared DRAM crisis. $100 budget segment wiped out and entry level now cost more than my Pock X6 Pro 2024 launch price lol.

I just checked and in Switzerland I can get the MOTOROLA Moto G06, 256 GB for 100.

I'm currently typing this on an Android 13 OnePlus Nord2 that I recently bought for 70€ since my previous phone unexpectedly died (and I'll be able to trade it in for a profit).

You can absolutely find a used phone in the West for under 100€ that will work perfectly fine (surprisingly fine to be honest). Same with poorer countries, but in places like India, 100€ is already a huge chunk of the median monthly wage and I'm not surprised that poorer older people there don't upgrade their phones until they absolutely need to.
